I was definitely seeing some Dragoon here, but I think Black Mage is probably a slightly better fit overall. I can picture many Black Mage characters like Lulu, Rydia, and even After Years!Palom being described as calm, analytical, independent, self-critical, stubborn, and maybe even a little contradicting in their personalities (for example, Lulu and Rydia can be pretty cynical too...but that's partially because they're disappointed about their ideals not being met in a way). Plus, pretty much all of the Black Mage characters are fairly loyal to those they're close to. Many Black Mages tend to fall into the more introverted and in-between cheerful/gloomy spectrums. They have a preference for being more of the "second-in-command" role, are slightly more confident (but not overly so), cautious, tend to be more calm, and are more in-between when it comes to the feminine/masculine archetypes. Many Black Mages are comfortable with offering advice from afar and they always strike me as being studious (they must have learned those spells somewhere!), so I think your appreciation of the scientific fields and culture would suit them. As always, I love reading your FF thoughts! :)
