My application

The Basics:

Name: Katy
Age: 17
Location: South England
Occupation: Student
How did you find out about this community? (Specify usernames if you remember them.) Searching around, mostly. I've been meaning to join for a while.

Personality Questions:

1) List and expand upon your three best traits / strengths. (These should be personality-related, not physical.)
1. I'd say I'm pretty loyal. I would pretty much do anything for my friends, I'm almost too protective over them.
2. People say that I have a great sense of humour, so there's that. I'm pretty good at getting people to laugh, it's probably my main way of cheering people up.
3. I'm pretty clever (Wow, that sounds really bigheaded), and I always do fairly well academically even though I don't exactly apply myself.

2) List and expand upon your three worst traits / weaknesses.
1. I boast a lot. Most of it's just light ribbing and joking, but I can be pretty self centred about it.
2. I'm really shy. I can't really talk to anybody unless they talk to me first, for the most part, unless I really, really try. It's rather problematic.
3. I get really, really anxious about stupid things. As much as I talk myself big, I get scared by things pretty easily and downright irrationately.

3) Rate yourself on the following traits by putting an 'X' in the box you think fits best. (E.g. if you are slightly more introverted than extroverted, put an 'X' in the second box.) Explain your choice as well.

Introverted [ ] [ ] [x] [ ] [ ] Extroverted
Explain: This was difficult. It depends who I'm with, really. If it's a bunch of people who I don't know at all, I'm really, really introverted. If it's people I've been friends with for a while then I am the boldest and just won't shut up. Therefore, I thought I'd place myself in the middle.

Cheerful [ ] [x] [ ] [ ] [ ] Gloomy
Explain: I like a laugh, but I'd say I'm sarcastic enough to keep myself away from being completely cheerful. I don't let anything get me down, though.

Reserved [x] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] Impulsive
Explain: I definitely prefer to think things through so that they don't go wrong. I'm so unimpulsive that I often have to even check posts on here a few times to make sure that everything's okay.

Energetic [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [x] Calm
Explain: Definitely calm. I don't see the need to go running about and getting over excited.

Logical/Thinking [x] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] Emotional/Feeling
Explain: I'm definitely more logical. I find it quite hard to put myself in others' shoes. It's not impossible, of course, but often if it's not serious enough then it is rather difficult. I'd say it means I give better, more rational advice, at least.

Grudge-holding [x] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] Forgiving
Explain: Yeah... I have a bit of a temper on me, so I'm definitely one to hold a grudge. It runs in my family.

4) Describe how you typically work in teams. Is it generally a good experience, or do you prefer working by yourself? Do you like to lead and make decisions or do you prefer to let others make decisions so that you can do the legwork? You may find it helpful to give an example of a team you worked on recently and how that went. I'm alright with working in a team lower down, but I'm definitely not leader material. I'm fine with just doing the work that's given to me and being left alone, for the most part.

5) Spider-Man Decision: If you had to choose between saving two dozen innocent children and saving your best friend/significant other/person closest to you, which would you pick and why? I'd pick the best friend/significant other/person closest to me. I know it's really selfish and terrible, but usually the people who are actually important to me are people that I just couldn't lose.

6) Your friend has had their feelings hurt and comes to you for consolation. What do you do? Let's say, two days later they come to you again still upset over the same issue. What would you do in that case? First I'd give them a bit of a pep talk, let them know that whoever had hurt their feelings wasn't even worth stepping on, and after that I would find who hurt their feelings and have a nice little discussion with them.

7) What interests/hobbies do you have? How do you like to spend your free time? I'm obsessed with playing video games, I like to watch TV (although a very limited range of shows, unfortunately), and I of course enjoy icon making. I also like roleplaying, watching movies and spending time with my friends. I like to read and write, but other than RP and reading forums I don't get much opportunity for either at the moment.

8) Describe one to three careers you would find ideal, with a little explanation of why it appeals to you. I would really, really like to get into games journalism. It's a growing industry, obviously, and there are so many ways to break into it. If I was to go to university (still undecided) then I would go to train to be a primary school teacher. It's really fun and rewarding, working with young kids, and if I could then it would be a really interesting thing to do.

FF Questions:

9) List one to three favorite Final Fantasy games and why you like them. Sequels/spin-offs/non-numbered/KH/Dissidia games are okay.
1. Final Fantasy VII - obvious reasons. It was a wonderful game, I really enjoyed the original and like to play it through about once a year. The characters are awesome, the plot was interesting (although badly translated) and the fact that it didn't always take itself seriously harkens back to a better era for the series.
2. Final Fantasy IX - the art style was really charming and the pre-rendered backdrops were just gorgeous and well crafted, they had so much love put into them. All the references to earlier Final Fantasy games made my inner FF fan squeal every single time. Although the battle system was slow, it was still pretty fun and an interesting way of learning abilities. The characters were amazing too. I mean come on, Steiner and Vivi.
3. Final Fantasy IV - It was the first main series game that I played! I love this game, even though it's sort of short by today's standards. I used to play it endlessly so it just grew and grew on me until I can't imagine not loving it any more. They've managed to get me to buy all the remakes.

10) List one to three of your favorite Final Fantasy characters and why:
Cloud Strife - I just find him a really interesting character, in the main game at least, rather than the spin-offs. His psyche was just really interesting and, even though he didn't feel he was that cut out to be leader, he still tried his best to guide everybody as best he could and still kept going even as things got worse and worse.
Kain Highwind - He's just awesome, and his feelings and motivations throughout the story of FFIV were really interesting to me.
Kefka - How could Kefka not be one of my favourites? He's gloriously mad and you never quite know what he's going to do next.

11) One to three characters you relate to (you may reuse answers from #8 if applicable) and why:
Cloud Strife. I relate to the fact that he was kind of lost and confused, and really admire him for his strength throughout the story even as things steadily unravelled around him.

12) The FF game you liked playing least: Final Fantasy XIII. I was just so excited for what it might be, and then I was so disappointed. Didn't help that it was my main 16th birthday present when I could've got something so much better if I'd known.

13) One to three FF characters you dislike and why:
1. I'm not a fan of Tifa. You can look at the original game (and this is just one way of looking at it, I completely understand if people like her instead) in a way that just makes her seem really manipulative. I mean, she didn't pay any attention to Cloud, who had no friends, until he said that he was going to join SOLDIER. At that point she realised that she could mould him into her knight in shining armour, so she goes ahead and gets him to make that promise. Plus, throughout the main game, even though she knew what had happened she never actually sucked it up and told him that he might want to think very hard about whether or not his memories about that day in Nibelheim were actually true.
2. Rinoa. Her personality just annoyed me. I get that it was supposed to be cutesy or something, but that just doesn't mesh well with me.

14) Favorite weapon in a Final Fantasy game (either the name if you liked the name, or a picture if you liked the look of it, or a description if it had awesome stats/abilities): Uhh... that ball that Wakka had in FFX that could petrify. The reason I liked it? Well, because the guy would throw a ball at something, it would make a little "boff" sound, and then the enemy would just be stone.

15) Your favorite Final Fantasy summon (e.g. Ifrit, Carbuncle, Bahamut, etc.): Doomtrain from FFVIII. It was a demonic train.

16) Your favorite spell/ability/technique that can be learned in a Final Fantasy game (e.g. Esuna, Steal, special finishes/overdrives such as Tifa's Final Heaven limit break, etc.): Cid's final limit, Highwind.

17) A Final Fantasy mini-game/sidequest you invested entirely too much time into: Chocobo Hot and Cold! Even after I found all the chocographs in an area I would just keep playing. The music was relaxing, and the game just had this way of making you go, "Well, just one more time..." for hours on end.

18) Your favorite Cid: Highwind, definitely.

19) Optional: Up to one class you think does not fit you, with reasoning why. I wouldn't say I'm much of a White Mage. I'm not nice or peaceful enough.

I find this one difficult, honestly. I thought of Dragoon and Soldier first, but there are elements of those I can't see throughout. Soldiers are more prone towards leadership and Dragoons more prone towards melancholy.

I'm seeing a Thief overall. Sure, not many of them are shy, but since ninjas also count, Shadow and the Eblan Four from AY fill the more introverted aspect.

They're incredibly loyal, often use humor in an attempt to cheer people up (everyone from Paul, Locke, and Rikku there), and being clever is one of their main traits. They would've been caught ages ago otherwise, and they usually display it through their knowledge in other fields as well. They can boast in a joking way (Paul and Yuffie anyone?), and are more cheerful than the two options I was considering above. While some are more energetic, there are about an even amount of calm ones overall, and... Overall, your situational responses are what remind me of this the most, as they're typically alright with leadership down the line, but usually aren't head leaders. Some would save their loved one due to their concepts of loyalty, and they're certainly the type to give pep talks. While I can see a lot of Soldier and Dragoon, the situational responses just seem slightly more Thief, although the 3 are pretty even overall.

Well, as was said before...I could definitely see a lot of Soldier and Dragoon in you at times, but I think I have to lean a bit more towards a Thief vote as well. Many of the Thief and Ninja characters in the FF series are rather loyal to those they care about or their viewpoints, often display a good sense of humor and like to use laughter to cheer others up, are very clever, and can sometimes boast about themselves quite a bit. And the shyness/introverted mentions you gave in your application do seem to fit with Ninja characters such as Shadow and the Eblan Four.

If around people that they're more familiar with, Thieves often display a more extroverted side to themselves than they might at first with total strangers. They tend to be more cheerful and usually don't let things keep them down. Quite a few of them do think well and hard before taking action (though it kind of depends on the character for this trait) and tend to be a bit more logical in their thought process because of that, and there are some Ninja and Thief characters who do prefer staying more calm too (again, depends on which character you're looking at though). Many of them do hold grudges for a long time too.

I could see several Thief characters answering the group-work question in a similar vein to how you did, and I could see several Thief characters responding in a similar vein to your answer to the Spider-Man scenario question too (as they often are quite loyal and protective of those they hold dear). How you would respond to the consoling a friend question also seem pretty fitting for several Thief and Ninja characters as well! It was very close between them, Soldier, and Dragoon...but something about a few of your question answers just had me leaning more towards Thief overall. :)

I loved reading your FF thoughts, by the way! Yay for FFVII, FFIX, and FFIV love! ♥

I'm getting both a soldier vibe and a thief vibe from you. I don't think that the leadership thing prevented you from being a soldier - in fact in the beginning of the career soldiers tend to be more followers than leaders (as in opposite of police work that you are expected to grab the situation by the balls from day one). I see lots of Zack and Laguna in you, and a bit of Yuffie.

While I think you would've made a fine thief, in the end I think your emphasis on loyalty makes ou more a soldier type. You are pretty sensitively detesting the manipulative, which makes the Yuffie bit less valid. No white mage for you today. :D

(PS: I agree so much regard to IX's background. I miss that style so much.)

My take on stamping (or whatever a given community ends up calling it) is that I tend to focus a lot more on HOW a person says something than what they say, and a lot on what people DON'T say or mention. Usually this ends up with a similar vote to everyone else, with similar reasons, but every now and then, I get down to other people's comments and realize that I have a TOTALLY DIFFERENT impression from everyone else-- and that's what happened with this app.

You say that you're calm and reserved, and that's probably true, but there's a strong undercurrent of vibrancy to your app that speaks of an energy to you that you're not 'fessing up to.

This undercurrent of energy makes me think you're not a Soldier or Dragoon, and the fact that it's an undercurrent and not something you make a comment on makes me think you wouldn't be very happy as a Thief (or that other Thieves might possibly be TOO energetic for you), though I do see where those votes are coming from.

So that leaves White Mage, Black Mage and Monk. I don't see a whole lot of WM in you, honestly-- you hold grudges and you seem more... attack oriented, I guess? I can't see you happy as "passive" support.

I am straight up torn 50/50 between Black Mage and Monk.

Your cleverness, your loyalty and your introverted calmness speaks to me for BM, along with your desire to roast anyone that hurts your friends. And you want to get into intellectual and artistic pursuits, but in a way that seems both analytical and fun. You seem very much like a calm person, with a fiery core underneath-- exactly what I think of in a black mage.

On the other hand, every time I starting thinking about dismissing the Monk I see in you due to your calm and introverted nature, I see that spark and I reread after that I would find who hurt their feelings and have a nice little discussion with them. and I give better, more rational advice, at least. and I have a bit of a temper on me and I boast a lot and I can't quite get it out of my head.

So I think you'd be happy as either, but I like your style and I'm stealing you for the Monks in my head, at least. I might come back and change that to Black Mage once I see some other votes, depending on other people's reasoning and votes, but for now, I'm gonna be selfish. :D

Your application was a tough one! I see Soldier, Thief, Dragoon, and Monk here...which is kind of an awesome combination, lolz. ♥ Out of those I think I'm leaning more towards Thief though. The Thieves in Final Fantasy tend to be a pretty good fit for your overall strengths and weaknesses: they're loyal, usually have good senses of humor, they're clever (and when you mentioned I always do fairly well academically even though I don't exactly apply myself that reminded me of quite a few of the Thieves for some reason!), quite a few of them tend to be on the more boastful side of the spectrum, and they can sometimes get really anxious over things (like Yuffie in FFVII...or Rikku's fear of lightning in FFX).

They're not the most shy, reserved, or even calm class out there, but like [livejournal.com profile] the_404_error mentioned, ninjas such as Shadow from FFVI and the Eblan Four from FFIV: The After Years counts here and certain Thieves like Vaan or Locke aren't as outgoing as, say, Thieves like Yuffie or Zidane are...so, I think it can still work for your application. Many of those Thief characters are pretty "middle-ground" as far as being introverted/extroverted, so I think your answer there fits pretty well for them! Most of the Thieves are pretty cheerful overall, even if they have moments of not being completely cheerful thanks to sarcasm. The Ninja side of the Thief class definitely strikes me as more logical too, and many of them are pretty grudge-holding too.

I see the Thieves as being more willing to admit that they're fine with working on a team so long as they're not the leaders...and I also see your answer to the Spider-Man decision as being very fitting for most of the Thieves as well. Plus, I see most of the Thief characters as being all for giving their friend a pep talk! XD

...Lolz, sorry! I have a "trick" from a Trick or Treat Meme left to do: Giggity! XD

[identity profile] cinnabonme.livejournal.com 2011-11-08 05:25 am (UTC)(link)
Again, another tough decision. I feel a lot of Soldier and Thief from this application. I did not get too much of a Dragoon, White Mage or Black Mage vibe from you, but the loyalty trait runs strongly within all these classes. I often feel that many of the bright and confident characters are shy underneath, and maybe their extroverted behaviour is how they choose to show themselves.

Like [livejournal.com profile] the_404_error and [livejournal.com profile] breyzyyin I agree with the ninja-type personality, and your feelings about leadership make me think that you are happy to be a supporter, and that's how I look at Thieves. I see you as a smart, confident and friendly Thief who also has a reserved side of her - much like Locke.

(And yes for more FFIV and FFIX love! :3)

Your description of yourself as clever and logical, not being leader material, and that you'd give your friends a pep-talk? I think I'm going to have to say Thief.

(Also, djfkdjfdj yessss Doom Train! ♥)

Firstly: ANOTHER BRIT! HALLO! *fistbumps*

I'm definitely gonna have to follow the bandwagon here and say Thief too! It's the sense of humour, the cheering people up, and definitely the clever-but-not-applying-yourself, really. Thieves love to learn how stuff works, but they're not quite as good at the whole sitting and studying thing as say, Black Mages. I also think that your leadership answer is pretty Thieflike (they're pretty easygoing about being told what to do), and the spiderman decision too.

[identity profile] haryan.livejournal.com 2011-11-09 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
I think you're a mix of Monk and Thief but I'm leaning a bit more towards Thief in the end. The description of your positive and negative traits reminds me od characters like Locke and Edge, and even if I can definitely see a bit of Soldier as well in some of your answers I think that Thief is a better fit for you.

I can see where the monk and soldier votes are coming from, but overall I think Thief is a better fit. Thief characters usually have sense of humour and are good at getting people laugh and cheering people up, they're clever and pretty loyal. Many of your answers to the "Situation" and "rate yourself" section also reminded me of many thief characters, and even if I don't consider thieves are "shy" I think thief is the best fit.

Another IV/IX fan, hooray! Anyway, stamping. I did see some Soldier, but overall, as the rest have already said, I'm going to go with Thief. They're generally the kind of people you'd want as a friend, and they tend to have a pretty good sense of humour - or at least are good-natured enough to take a joke. As people have already mentioned, the more-introverted side of you fits very well with Ninja - and quite a few Thieves/Ninjas have a bit of a tendency to boast. (I thought of Edge when you said that in your application, actually, so...)

I did see some Soldier and Dragoon, but overall I'm leaning towards Thief for you as well! Like most thieves, you're loyal and you have a great sense of humor. Although you're a bit reserved, I feel that your strengths and weaknesses along with your spiderman and friends answers are more suited to Thief :-)

Team Black Mage

[identity profile] panda3035.livejournal.com 2011-11-12 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I say that Thief and Black Mage has a very small border. Where everyone see you as Thief, I see you as Black Mage. I chose this because of some of the qualities you shown. You are calm, will think rationally and reserved. Now, I don't want to say that thief don't have these qualities, I'm just saying that these usually lean towards a Mage and Dragoon type characters.

Black Mage

Thief! Loyalty -- great sense of humour -- boasts a lot -- sarcastic type of cheerful -- I think I've seen these somewhere in the Final Fantasy series, no? XD I also agree that the more introverted side of you fits well with Ninja. In your response to #5 I see friends as shiny treasures to be protected at all costs, and in #6 I can imagine Thieves doing the nice little discussion you mentioned.

(Eep late vote!) Originally I was going to say Thief, but I think I'm going to vote you as a cheerful, humorous Dragoon instead. I guess that's a bit weird, but a lot fits -- your loyalty, your dichotomies (reserved, calm, think things through first, grudge-holding)... Your answers about choosing the person closest to you and also how you'd react to a friend being hurt makes me think of a protective Dragoon, a bit like Fang (who also has a humorous temperament, so at least that fits).

I definitely see the Thief too, but after writing up a Thief vote, I felt like I was able to type out a stronger argument for Dragoon, so I did that instead. I also see a lot of Soldier and Black Mage, but I'm going to go with "cheerful Dragoon" for now.

I'm glad you applied! :)
