application.

The Basics:

Name: Crystal.
Age: 19.
Location: USA.
Occupation: Aide at a daycare/pre-school.
How did you find out about this community? [livejournal.com profile] roax told me about it initially, but finding out that [livejournal.com profile] purpletrance was applying as well was what pushed me into applying myself. =)

Personality Questions:

1) List and expand upon your three best traits / strengths.
01. I'm able to see grey areas, not just black and white. I suppose that would be called 'accepting'? To me, people aren't just good or bad, right or wrong, because there are always reasons behind what they do. It may not seem like a great trait, but it allows me to forgive people who've done wrong, which in turn allows me to live my life as I please without nurturing grudges like they're my children. It really comes in handy sometimes.
02. I'm very blunt, and I'm very honest. I will tell people what they need to hear, not what they want to hear, even if it stings a little. Because I'm blunt, I don't really have any hidden maliciousness or intentions, people always know what to expect with me, and that makes relationships and friendships much more relaxed and easy to figure out on both ends.
03. I care very deeply about the people close to me, and I would risk my life for them with no hesitation. I'm admittedly selective about the people I'm close to, but I am always there for those people. If someone were to hurt my friend knowingly in any way, they would get more than an earful from me, my own reputation as being "nice" be damned. When another family member hurts my mother, I will gladly destroy my relationship with that person to defend my mother and say the words she can't. If I care about someone, it's very strongly, and it's for life.

2) List and expand upon your three worst traits / weaknesses.
01. I let things get to me far more than they should. There are certain things that I know shouldn't get under my skin, but they do, and I always react strongly to those things. I suppose you could call that temperamental, but it applies for more emotions than just anger. Sadness, happiness, frustration, they're all tied into the little things for me.
02. I'm stubborn to a ridiculous fault. I almost never accept help, even when it's obvious that I need it, and I sometimes get a bad case of tunnel vision because of it. If I set my mind on something, I can't stop to think about other possibilities that could be out there, because when I want something I get it. It could be a good trait in someone else, but I can't be trusted with something like that, since my stubbornness has put me into one too many bad situations in my life so far.
03. I'm a bit cocky, to be quite honest. I often overestimate my own abilities and talents, and usually wind up paying for it when I can't follow up on my end of the bargain.

3) Rate yourself on the following traits by putting an 'X' in the box you think fits best. (E.g. if you are slightly more introverted than extroverted, put an 'X' in the second box.) Explain your choice as well.

Introverted [ ] [X] [ ] [ ] [ ] Extroverted
Explain: I'm mostly introverted and prefer to keep to myself, but there are times when I will just let loose and have fun. Those times are pretty rare, but they still exist.

Cheerful [ ] [X] [ ] [ ] [ ] Gloomy
Explain: I don't think I'm really gloomy per say, but I do get in a few funks from time to time. Still, I almost always try to look on the bright side, even if it's painful. Because hey, it could always be worse.

Leader [ ] [ ] [X] [ ] [ ] Supportive
Explain: This is hard to explain. I can lead a group when I need to, and I can lead them well, but I'm better at being the one making sure no one runs out of water in their flask. Still, I can do both jobs well, so it's a middle X here.

Confident [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] Modest
Explain: I didn't put one here, because while I am extremely confident, I don't usually go parading it around and bragging about it, because I'm never the best, because everything is open to interpretation. I have full confidence in myself, but I'm also able to keep a sense of modesty in knowing that I'm not exactly everyone's cup of tea.

Reserved [ ] [X] [ ] [ ] [ ] Impulsive
Explain: I'm very reserved when it comes to people, especially people I don't know, but I also have my moments of impulsiveness when I'm around certain people I can relax with. It really depends on the company and situation, but I'm usually more reserved than impulsive.

Energetic [ ] [ ] [X] [ ] [ ] Calm
Explain: I honestly get very excited very easily, but I don't really know how to convey it, so I always seem a lot calmer IRL than I actually am. I think it has to do with me being reserved around other people, but I'm almost always giggling on the inside.

Feminine [ ] [ ] [ ] [X] [ ] Masculine/Tomboyish
Explain: I hate bugs and dirt, and I enjoy playing with my hair and makeup, but that's about as far as my feminism goes. :3

4) Describe how you typically work in teams. Is it generally a good experience, or do you prefer working by yourself? Do you like to lead and make decisions or do you prefer to let others make decisions so that you can do the legwork? You may find it helpful to give an example of a team you worked on recently and how that went.
I really don't like working with a team, but I also think it's good to know how, because I know that I don't know everything. I suppose in a team setting, I usually kind of keep to myself anyway. I don't mind talking with the other team members, but I'd rather just do what I have to do and keep the mindless chatter for someone else who actually likes chit-chatting. I like to focus on my job, on what I need to do, and let everyone else do whatever they want, as long as they don't slow us down.

5) What interests/hobbies do you have? How do you like to spend your free time?
Other than the obvious answer of playing video games, I like to listen to music, watch anime, write, read, make icons, and just generally do whatever I can to fill the time. If it can stimulate my mind in any way, then all the better. :3

6) Describe one to three careers you would find ideal, with a little explanation of why it appeals to you.
I want to be a lighting technician for concerts and stage performances. It's perfect for me, because it allows me to be creative and play with the colors I so love, while still allowing me to be technical. It's something that lets you look at things from another perspective, lets you pump up the volume on someone else's potentially life changing moments, AND it involves music and the general music scene. Really, it's perfect for me. It's the only thing I want to do now. (See that tunnel vision, people? XD)

FF Questions:

7) List one to three favorite Final Fantasy games and why you like them. Sequels/spin-offs/non-numbered/KH/Dissidia games are okay.
FFX is probably my favorite of all time. I love the story, I love the characters, I love the pacing, and it was my first real RPG so it also holds that nostalgic value. (I've also played it about 8 times all the way through, so my following answers may reveal my bias a little. ^^;; )
FFXII is also a pretty close contender, because I love the story line and gameplay so much it's not even funny, but FFX is still number one.

8) List one to three of your favorite Final Fantasy characters and why:
Jecht is easily my favorite character, because his character was so well thought out. He's the villain, yes, but at the same time, he isn't. He's all tough and burly, but you can tell that he really cares deeply for Tidus and Tidus' mother, even if he never says it out loud. I tend to like characters with many dimensions, who can be interpreted in many ways.

9) One to three characters you relate to (you may reuse answers from #8 if applicable) and why:
Tidus, I think. He's been through some hard times, seen some rough things, but he always tries to stay optimistic, even when everyone else has lost hope, and even moreso when the other people around him start to falter. He doesn't stay upbeat for himself, but for other people, and he sticks with the people he cares about through thick and thin, no matter what. I think it's a pretty accurate comparison, really.

10) The FF game you liked playing least:
FFI, because at certain points, there's no real sense of direction and if you miss even one thing, you could easily wind up just wandering around for hours, trying to find where you're supposed to go and completely missing it because the story line won't reveal itself.

11) One to three FF characters you dislike and why:
I honestly don't dislike any characters enough to list them. I mean, even the ones I'm not necessarily a fan of have things in their characterization that I adore. *shrug*

12) Favorite weapon in a Final Fantasy game (either the name if you liked the name, or a picture if you liked the look of it, or a description if it had awesome stats/abilities):
I'm such a sucker for the Spears from FFXII. They were all so pretty. *O* But I suppose my favorite would be the Gungnir, or maybe the Dragon Whisker. I mean, just *look* at them. :Q___

13) Your favorite Final Fantasy summon (e.g. Ifrit, Carbuncle, Bahamut, etc.):
I'm basing this mostly on FFX because I don't remember the other games all that well, but Shiva was always my favorite. I mean, I also loved Anima, but it made things way too easy. Shiva was badass looking and did just the right amount of damage without actually KO'ing anyone.

14) Your favorite spell/ability/technique that can be learned in a Final Fantasy game (e.g. Esuna, Steal, special finishes/overdrives such as Tifa's Final Heaven limit break, etc.):
Honestly, I think white magic is probably the most useful spell in the games, so Curaja or other top-level cure spells.

15) A Final Fantasy mini-game/sidequest you invested entirely too much time into:
CELESTIAL WEAPONS IN FFX. Enough said.

16) Your favorite Cid:
I remember liking the Cid from VI a lot, but I honestly found XII's Cid the most interesting. I mean, really, a villain Cid? :O

17) Optional: Up to one class you think does not fit you, with reasoning why.

Monk

[identity profile] zerrat.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Monk for sure. I'm a tad poor on time, but your bluntness, loyalty and stubbornness are very monk-like traits in my opinion. Reserved monks, like Tifa and Yang, come to mind.

[identity profile] arivess.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd say Dragoon, though for similar reasons [livejournal.com profile] zerrat listed there. I see the loyalty and introversion as more of a Dragoon thing, though I do think Monk is similar too.

Oh, blunt and honest, you are so totally Monk I'm not even kidding XD

And can I just say: SPEAR-LOVING :D I agree so much it hurts. <333

Team White Mage

[identity profile] purpletrance.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I could see Solider and Dragoon here, (your relation to Tidus, soldiers are supportive and defensive, although so are Dragoons - fiercely loyal to those that they love) although in the end, I think your blunt attitude is best reserved for the Monk class. Strong mix between Dragoon (reserved, loyal, defensive, quiet at times, etc) but I'm really getting Monk, here. The bluntness & honestly just doesn't fit the other classes, I don't think, and I believe that's one of your stronger qualities. :)

[identity profile] northstarroad.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I am going to have to go with Dragoon, because you remind me so very much of Fang. Fiercely loyal, stubborn, and a confidence that radiates from within - assured yet reserved; add to the fact that you can easily take a leadership role or stand back to allow someone else the responsibility.

[identity profile] breyzyyin.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I can definitely see some Dragoon and Soldier...but you're kind of like a mix of the two and then the bluntness in your application makes me lean more towards the Monk class as well. Like you, quite a few Monk characters are able to see grey areas; are very honest; care deeply for those close to them; can easily get something under their skin and react strongly to them; are very stubborn; and can be quite cocky. Some, like Tifa and Yang, are more introverted than some of their more outgoing counterparts; are reserved; lean more towards being cheerful; can be both leaders or support roles in a team if it is required of them; are confident but not to the point of bragging about it; and appear calmer on the outside than they might be on the inside. Some don't necessarily like working on teams, but they know how to...and they often prefer focusing on the job at hand (like Tifa, Yang, or Prishe). Monks in the FF series are all for stimulation, so your answer about If it can stimulate my mind in any way, then all the better for things in your spare time fits them really well! :)

~Yay for FFX and FFXII love! Those are two of my favorite games in the series as well. ♥

I'm going to go with Dragoon because while I can see traits like being blunt and honest fitting with either Monk or Dragoon, you're a little too introverted and reserved to really fit Monk for me. They're quieter, yes, but you seem a lot calmer and a bit more cautious than most Monk character strike me as being, so Dragoon it is.

I could honestly see either Monk or Dragoon being really good fits for you...though I think in the end I'm leaning slightly more towards Dragoon. They seem to be more adept at seeing grey areas than other job class characters sometimes are, can be rather blunt or honest at times, can be quite stubborn, and care deeply for those they are close to. How you described your answers to the later traits section had me thinking of characters such as Freya, Fang, Kain, and Kimahri--and I could even see them in how you responded to the team/leader question as well. :D

You struck me as Dragoon at question number one and the rest of the app just reiterated that. You're a bit of a loner and your bluntness and stubborness may not be "everybody's cup of tea" as you said but you're fierce, and uncompromisingly loyal, which reminds me more of a Fang than a Tifa. >

I can see where the Monk votes are coming from and I can actually see a bit of Soldier as well in your application, but in the end I think I have to agree with the Dragoon votes for you. many of your positive and negative traits remind of a few Dragoon characters, and I've always pictured Dragoons as very honest, introverted, reserved and confident for the most part.

I'm going to say Dragoon, even though I could see Monk as well for you. At first, I thought Monk because you're blunt, honest and loyal; also the stubbornness and sometimes overestimating yourself added to my thoughts... but you seem to be more reversed and calm than most Monk-characters and Dragoon-characters usually are more on the blunt/honest-side as well and they're definitely loyal to selected persons, too.

While I was tempted to say either Monk or Black Mage at times, I'm leaning towards Dragoon in the end. While they're often on the gloomier end of the spectrum, almost everything else fits well, and even then there's Dragoons like Fang and Kimhari which don't really fall into that niche... and even Ricard and Freya don't really dwell on their problems openly. I can easily see most of them understanding that gray areas always exist, and almost all of them are deeply loyal with a tendency towards bluntness. They're also quite confident without bragging about it, stubborn, and introverted. They can be leaders if they feel they need to be, but they're also capable of supporting... and you even like spears, as insignificant as that reason is.

I'm thinking Dragoon for you. Your three best and worst traits about yourself remind me of a lot of characters like Fang and Kain. Dragoon also strikes me as introverted, and you mentioned you're introverted and prefer to heel to yourself, and you can be a leader if necessary, you don't like working with a team very much, something that remind me a lot of Dragoon somehow.

At first I was thinking a Dragoon/Soldier combination, but after reading the comments, there's a really compelling Monk argument here as well! I'm torn... I think I will say Monk of a more reserved kind, because a lot fits -- stubbornness, while not holding grudges, bluntness, cockiness, leaning cheerful, and excitable under a calm exterior. Dragoon is a close second because I think that fierce loyalty fits that class best and you are reserved, but the cheerfulness and energy didn't strike me as particularly dragoon. XD

Team Black Mage

[identity profile] panda3035.livejournal.com 2011-02-19 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
I think you're more of a Monk than a dragoon. Just because of your cheerfulness that kind of pushed me towards you being a monk. Though reserved, you can say you are like Amarant.

[identity profile] roax.livejournal.com 2011-02-19 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Now that I read your app, I reminded myself how much I loved the sidequests in FFX i tried. Anyways... you are quite hard for me to place, Crystal. I really want to give you Dragoon so you can be with me on the team (lol) but I also see a lot of Monk working for you with some Soldier and even Black Mage after it's been mentioned. However your application made me think more of Monks than anything else. Your love for spears aside (although i sooo approve), you're someone who is very confident and can be even considered overconfident which reminds me of Monks, they also usually know their limits which reminds me of you. I always see monks as characters who simply know what they can and can't do and even if they aim a bit too high, they're determined enough to do it anyways which is something i associate with you. Your bluntness and honestly is very much like them as well. Monks usually are quite stubborn and while Fang is too, not all the Dragoons in the series are. What you said about your emotions and getting easily excited reminded me of them too however i cannot really imagine you being energetic like Zell for example since you did mention you stay calm most of the time. You can be a leader and support, more cheerful than gloomy etc. You care deeply about others and you stay ~happy~ for them which is something that reminds me of that job class rather than Dragoons. However I still do see the later one, just.. not as much? I am just getting monk-ish vibe from your application. You sound like a mix of a classic (composed, more calm) monk and modern one. Random but now that I read your application over and over again, you do remind me of Fang quite a lot. Just saying since you know how much I adore her :">

I got a pretty strong Dragoon vibe from you. You're reserved, confident, stubborn, prefer working alone, and capable of leading. All of these things say Dragoon to me. Plus your appreciation for multi-layered characters (which Dragoons typically are) and your love of spears swayed me a bit too, lol. You're cheerful, but it doesn't strike me as an exuberant kind of cheerful, more subdued, which makes me think of Freya and Fang a little bit.
