Application!

The Basics:

Name: Michelle
Age: 20
Location: Nevada, USA
Occupation: College student
How did you find out about this community? (Specify usernames if you remember them.) the_404_error

Personality Questions:

1) List and expand upon your three best traits / strengths. (These should be personality-related, not physical.)
I am calm during stressful situations. I'm usually the person people turn to when they're freaking out and more often than not, I'm the one who usually says "calm down and take a deep breath" (and if I was a video game character, that would be my catch phrase lol). I am objective when it comes to making decisions and I often look at both sides of an argument. And most of all, I am extremely loyal to the people I love and care about. I would seriously die for my friends and family.

2) List and expand upon your three worst traits / weaknesses.
I can be extremely envious of other people's talents and looks. When I don't meet my own expectations, I always compare myself to other people and I think, "Why can't I be like them?." I try not to think like this often but sometimes I find it hard not to. I tend to hold grudges and find it hard to forgive and forget. In general, I do believe people can change but once a person has wronged me in anyway, I find it hard to trust them again. It'll always be in the back on head and I find it hard to forget.

3) Rate yourself on the following traits by putting an 'X' in the box you think fits best. (E.g. if you are slightly more introverted than extroverted, put an 'X' in the second box.) Explain your choice as well.

Introverted [ ] [x] [ ] [ ] [ ] Extroverted
Explain: I usually keep to myself and I'm pretty awkward in social situations so I avoid them like the plague, lol. For me, social situations involve a lot of small talk and saying things aren't genuine, which is why I tend to stay quiet during parties. I do get frustrated sometimes because people take my silence in an entire different way and I've been called stuck-up so many times because of it.

Cheerful [ ] [x] [ ] [ ] [ ] Gloomy
Explain: I try to keep a cheerful disposition in general. I've always believed that if you feel good and cheerful about yourself and others, then good things will come to you.

Reserved [ ] [x] [ ] [ ] [ ] Impulsive
Explain: Again, I usually keep to myself and I spend more time thinking about things than doing them. I do get a lot of impulsive thoughts but I usually convince myself not to act on them.

Energetic [ ] [ ] [ ] [x] [ ] Calm
Explain: I'm an overall mellow person. I can be energetic too but I just don't show it much.

Feminine [ ] [x] [ ] [ ] [ ] Masculine/Tomboyish
Explain: I'm more feminine by the definition that I take time to make myself feel pretty and confident every morning but I'm more tomboyish in the way I dress. I prefer to wear jeans and sneakers over dresses and skirts.

Grudge-holding [ ] [x] [ ] [ ] [ ] Forgiving
Explain: I find it hard to forgive a person and I usually hold grudges because I find it hard to trust people again once I've been hurt by them.

4) Describe how you typically work in teams. Is it generally a good experience, or do you prefer working by yourself? Do you like to lead and make decisions or do you prefer to let others make decisions so that you can do the legwork? You may find it helpful to give an example of a team you worked on recently and how that went.
When I work in a team, I let others lead me because I work better when I'm guided and given a specific objective. Once I have a specific topic to work on, I usually work on it by myself and rarely do I ask for help from my team mates. Actually, even though I'm not the leader, people usually end up asking me for help and advice with their part. Most of the time I've worked on teams, I usually end up assisting the leader and helping him/her lead the team.

5) Spider-Man Decision: If you had to choose between saving two dozen innocent children and saving your best friend/significant other/person closest to you, which would you pick and why?
I would choose to save the innocent children because as much as I love my best friend/significant other/person closest to me, my priority is always to save as much people as possible, regardless if I know them or not.

6) Your friend has had their feelings hurt and comes to you for consolation. What do you do? Let's say, two days later they come to you again still upset over the same issue. What would you do in that case?
I would first listen to what they have to say. Then, I would give them my thoughts on the situation. I'm not going to lie and tell them what they want to hear but I won't be rude and tell them everything that pops in my head. I'm going to tell them what they need to hear so that they can move on and start healing. And if they do come back again a couple days later with the same issue, I would tell them the exact same thing I told them earlier and also tell them to try to focus on other things.

7) What interests/hobbies do you have? How do you like to spend your free time?
I usually spend my free time reading, watching movies, writing, and listening to music but most of my time is spent on reading. I love learning and discovering new things and I also love reading stories. It's fascinating how much you can learn about yourself by just reading.

8) Describe one to three careers you would find ideal, with a little explanation of why it appeals to you.
Nursing is currently the career I'm pursuing. It's my dream job because I love the human anatomy and I love that I'm able to make a difference in a person's life. It's such a wonderful feeling when you've helped another person. Other careers that I've considered are teaching (history/english in foreign countries).

FF Questions:

9) List one to three favorite Final Fantasy games and why you like them. Sequels/spin-offs/non-numbered/KH/Dissidia games are okay.
My absolute favorite game would be Final Fantasy IX. I love the characters (and the NPCs too) and how each of them had something to contribute to the story. The setting of the story is absolutely beautiful. I'd love to live in a place like Alexandria or Lindblum. I also adore the little easter eggs throughout the game about past FF games. I'm a sucker for nostalgia and FFIX made me nostalgic with every play. Overall, I love everything about the game. My other two favorites are FFX and FFIV. I've always thought of Final Fantasy and other RPGs as interactive books so my favorites are usually ones with gripping and wonderful story lines.

10) List one to three of your favorite Final Fantasy characters and why:
Zidane is one of my absolute favorite characters because I love that he doesn't turn his back on people who need him. I also love that he is so sociable and makes an effort for everyone to feel included. Auron is another favorite of mine because of his literally undying loyalty to his friends and his determination to make things right by them. And of course, I can't forget about Vivi! He's so adorable and he is very wise for his age, even though he doesn't consider himself smart at all. Vivi asks all the right questions and he is also extremely loyal and will do anything to protect his friends.

11) One to three characters you relate to (you may reuse answers from #8 if applicable) and why:
Yuna is probably the closest character I can relate to. We both lost our fathers at a young age, we both have too much responsibilities and expectations on our shoulders, and we also have very similar personalities.

12) The FF game you liked playing least:
I didn't really enjoy playing FFVIII because I couldn't quite get into the story. I found it hard to relate to Squall and his "lone wolf" attitude. At least with FFVII, Cloud showed a major character change by the end of the game as oppsed to Squall, who only slightly changed. I also didn't like how the other characters didn't get enough development. They had great potential but they just felt like extras. Also I never felt the chemistry between Rinoa and Squall and I cringed at about every scene between the two of them. I also wasn't a big fan of the GF system. Overall this game just wasn't for me.

13) One to three FF characters you dislike and why:
Squall because I couldn't connect with him as the main character. I felt like he didn't change much throughout the course of the game compared to the other leads in the series. Also I didn't like Rinoa because I found her a little too whiny.

14) Favorite weapon in a Final Fantasy game (either the name if you liked the name, or a picture if you liked the look of it, or a description if it had awesome stats/abilities):
I love the guns used in FFXII. I love their designs and they just have so much character. The moment you see Balthier use it in one of the FMVs early in the game, you can really feel that he is a pirate that lives by his own rules.

15) Your favorite Final Fantasy summon (e.g. Ifrit, Carbuncle, Bahamut, etc.):
Shiva, esp. in FFX. She brings ice cold to another level. Also how can you not love the snap that she does? Flawless.

16) Your favorite spell/ability/technique that can be learned in a Final Fantasy game (e.g. Esuna, Steal, special finishes/overdrives such as Tifa's Final Heaven limit break, etc.):
I love Lightning's summon, Odin. The summoning sequence is beautiful and the both of them are badasses, enough said.

17) A Final Fantasy mini-game/sidequest you invested entirely too much time into:
I've spent way too much time dodging lighting for Lulu's ultimate weapon. Just thinking about it gives me the shivers.

18) Your favorite Cid:
Final Fantasy IX's Regent Cid of course! Ooglop Cid will always be the best Cid for me.

19) Optional: Up to one class you think does not fit you, with reasoning why.
I don't think I'm suited to be a soldier because I'm not a natural leader and I'd rather have someone else take charge. I already have too many expectations of myself so I don't think I can handle the expectations and responsibilities of everyone as a soldier.

Black Mage

[identity profile] toroias.livejournal.com 2011-06-21 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Reading your application I was waffling between Black Mage and White Mage. Some of your answers sound like they're more on the BLM side, holding grudges, not wanting to be the leader and feeling more comfortable not being in social situations. Some of what you said reminds me of people like Terra, but ultimately I think you're a White Mage. I mean, once you get past the more cynical questions you really do remind me of a Yuna, or a Rosa.

I'm pretty sure that you're a Dragoon. Calm, objective, and above all, loyal to a fault. In particular, you remind me of Freya (so glad to have another IX-fan, btw! <3), with her steadiness and warmth. Your grudge-holding nature is in line with several Dragoons (Kain, Fang) and your enviousness really strongly reminded me of Kain. Dragoons are capable of leading when necessary but tend to fall into supportive roles whenever possible, and the only thing that really struck me as non-Dragoon would be your unselfish answer to the Spiderman decision. But since no other class stood out to me at ALL, my vote is definitely Dragoon.

Welcome to ff_land!

Like the vote above, I kept on switching between the two mage groups, but this is so very White Mage:

"I would choose to save the innocent children because as much as I love my best friend/significant other/person closest to me, my priority is always to save as much people as possible, regardless if I know them or not."

Your positive traits fit the white mages perfectly, and while your negative traits are a bit more black mage, I think some of them do look up to others and try to aspire to be more like them, even if they don't portray the more negative aspects of that. (i.e. Yuna looking up to Braska) Your reasoning behind the introversion traits reminds me of Garnet, they're often cheerful, and more reserved.

Nursing is also... well, if they had rpg moves, they would be cure moves, no?

I kept going back-and-forth between different job classes for you: White Mage, Black Mage, and Dragoon. But, I actually think I'm leaning the most towards Dragoon! Pretty much all of the Dragoons in FF are calm in stressful situations...and ones like Kimahri, Kain, Freya, and Fang are pretty objective when it comes to looking at both sides...as well as extremely loyal! They can also be envious of others at times (especially when their own expectations aren't met) and they can hold grudges and find it hard to forgive and forget.

Many of the Dragoon characters can be classified as more introverted for the same reasons you are (For me, social situations involve a lot of small talk and saying things aren't genuine, which is why I tend to stay quiet...and Dragoon characters like Fang and Cid Highwind prove that they can also be cheerful too (or, at least, not gloomy!). I think "reserved with impulsive thoughts" fits the Dragoon class as a whole very well also, and overall they're pretty calm and mellow (with energetic moments). Your team answers fits with the Dragoons to me as well since they're the types of characters to like being given or guided to a specific goal and then work on said goal by themselves. They often end up assisting the leader character as well! I think your "Spider-Man" decision fits for a few of the Dragoon characters, at least (Kimahri, for instance). I also think your answer to the friend question is very fitting for a Dragoon as well (your answer actually sounded like something I could picture Fang saying/doing!). XD

~Yay, a fellow FFIX, FFX, and FFIV fan! ♥

Edit: Nevermind! I see you fixed it. :)

Annnd I guess echoing the comments above, I think you're a mix of a White Mage and a Dragoon. You seem to have a calm, more restrained personality which could fit either. Your loyalty to your friends and family ("I would die for them") could speak for a fiercely loyal Dragoon or for a self-sacrificing White Mage as well. Your cheerfulness and desire to save as many lives as possible as well as your nursing career ambitions make me think White Mage over Dragoon. On the other side, your grudge-holding nature and your leadership answer (wanting to be guided, rarely needing to ask for help, assisting the leader, etc.) make me think of a Dragoon over a White Mage.

Aughhh this is really hard, but I think just looking at your positive and negative traits, a Dragoon fits best. :)

I'm going with Dragoon on this one. Calm, loyal, introverted, yet cheerful... You remind me of Dragoons like Freya from IX, and only a little of Kain (he angsts too much! Lol). I think your leadership choice also sounds more Dragoon-ish (although I can see where the White Mage votes are coming from). I feel like White Mages are more forgiving though, which adds yet another point for my Dragoon vote for you. *nod*

*cries at the FFVIII dislike*

Lol nah, don't worry about it. At least you weren't outright bashing it ;D

Lol hey, I'm glad you finished the game at least? Lol. FF8 does have its flaws, and their characters WERE really not developed well, focusing too much within too little time frame (FF8 was pretty short o_O) but I guess it will always be my favourite FF despite that xD

(I don't like Rinoa either! :D I am the only Squall/Selphie fan here xDDDDD)

[identity profile] hilian.livejournal.com 2011-06-21 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
I am torn between Dragoon and White Mage but in the end I think I'm leaning more towards a White Mage vote. I can see where the Dragoon votes are coming from, how you described your personality ( you're able to remain calm during stressful situations, you're loyal but you also you hold grudges ) reminded me of many Dragoon characters, but in the end the overall tone of your application, many of the positive and negative traits you listed, your rate yourself section ( reserved, calm, feminine, mellow but can be energetic sometimes ) your opinion on team work and some parts of your application ("I've always believed that if you feel good and cheerful about yourself and others, then good things will come to you.") reminded me of characters like Yuna and Rosa.

I'm seeing more White Mage than I am Dragoon; your strengths and your opinion on team work seem like they could be read either way, but they more immediately struck me as WM-ish, maybe just from the way you phrased it. Your Spider-man decision and your ideal career were what sold me on you being a WM, though-- I wouldn't feel right placing you anywhere else with those answers. Plus, your first weakness strikes me as something one would see in white mage characters too, if you look at it like you're someone who sets high expectations for yourself and are hard on yourself when you don't meet them. I agree with the Yuna vibes other people have mentioned! In general, I just think the overall tone you have here is more WMish than Dragoon.

Image

[identity profile] breyzyyin.livejournal.com 2011-06-21 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm...I was torn, because I could see either Mage group OR the Dragoon class fitting for you. In particular, both the White Mage and Dragoon votes you've been getting make really excellent sense to me--which doesn't help my confusion any either, lolz (you could be our very first "Holy Dragoon" like Kain was in FFIV: The After Years, haha! ♥). XD In the end though? I think I might be leaning a little bit more towards the Dragoon class overall.

Most Dragoons tend to be incredibly calm during stressful situations (Ricard, Kain, Fang, Freya, Kimahri, and Cid Highwind even despite his usual exuberance in other matters), they often tend to be very objective in how they view things (Kain, Fang, and Freya all come to mind here), and Dragoon characters are oftentimes many of the most loyal characters from their respective games (Kain's conflict of character comes from that...and loyalty to those they care about are the driving forces behind Fang's, Freya's, Ricard's, and Kimahri's respective stories as well). Your weaknesses also remind me sometimes of certain individual Dragoon characters' weaknesses.

Dragoon characters are often portrayed as sometimes being more quiet and introverted than their other party counterparts, so I could see your answer to the introverted question fitting many of them quite easily. You mentioned being cheerful, and there are THREE of the six more prominent Dragoon characters in the FF series who are pretty cheerful and who I see sharing your viewpoint on that: Fang, Freya, and Cid. Aside from perhaps Fang (who has reserved moments due to her more private persona) and Cid, they do tend to be more reserved as a whole though they do sometimes have impulsive thoughts as a whole. Dragoons tend to be fairly laid-back and mellow in comparison to the more hyper party members in FF games, but they can have energetic moments or impulses too (again, Fang and Cid would definitely prove this...as would Freya at certain moments in FFIX). Your response to the grudge-holding or forgiving question actually is what sways me a bit more towards Dragoons overall as they tend to be characters who often find it hard to "forgive and forget" (whereas the White Mages are far more likely to)...it takes characters like Fang, Kain, and Cid quite a long time to actually forgive people who they feel have wronged them and they have a harder time trusting them afterwards (in Cid's case, the only thing that really made him change his mind was that he learned his initial assessment of what Shera did was actually mistaken and she'd saved his life).

Personally, your answer to the teamwork question strikes me as VERY Dragoon-like in a lot of ways: they like being guided and having a specific objective, but once they have said objective they usually like to work by themselves if they can. Otherwise, they usually tend to assist the leader of the effort. I also think your Spider-Man decision (while very fitting for a White Mage), could also fit insanely well for quite a few Dragoon characters. Characters like Kimahri, Freya, and Ricard would most assuredly save the lives of many over just one person even if that was someone important to them--I think they'd expect the same if their situation was reversed. Your consoling a friend answer does sound like something either Fang or Cid would say as well (I can't readily imagine too many of the White Mage characters who would perhaps do the same).

While Yuna is a White Mage character, I feel like your reasoning for relating to her actually strikes me as being something I could imagine quite a few Dragoon characters saying would be a reason they perhaps related to another person as well: we both have too much responsibilities and expectations on our shoulders. Dragoons tend to be very responsible characters in their own way, and many of them do have pretty high expectations put upon them or put there by themselves even. :)

I loved reading your answers to the FF-related questions, by the way! Always wonderful to meet a fellow FFIX, FFX, and FFIV fan! ♥

I can see where the Dragoon votes are coming from, but actually I see a lot of White Mage in your application. Your catch phrase ("calm down and take a deep breath") reminds me a lot of characters like Yuna and Rosa, and I usually picture White mages as normally calm, loyal and a bit insecure so I think White mage really fits your best and worst traits. Also you mentioned that you usually end up assisting the leader and helping him/her lead the team and you seem to love helping others (love that I'm able to make a difference in a person's life. It's such a wonderful feeling when you've helped another person), definitely a White mage!

I kept wavering between Dragoon and White Mage for you (I am doing a lot of wavering these days, it seems); but ultimately I'm going to go with Dragoon. I would consider your traits - positive and negative - to fit them pretty well: loyal, calm, driven (well, I figure that's kind of related to high-standards), but also not as forgiving as some of the other classes. White Mages always tend to strike me as forgiving people, regardless of their other personality traits.

(Also, another FFIX and FFIV fan? YAY!)

I'm going to go for White Mage. Although I saw a little Dragoon, most of who you are is white mage. You describe yourself as being like Yuna, also. You're loyal to the people and life (like your occupation) is very white mage. Your good traits and dichotomies are also seen often in lots of FF white mages, even the grudge-holding. You reminded me mostly of Penelo from XII for the kindness and femininity, and Ashe for your boyish looks and grudge-holding. I consider them both white mages because they begin with the magic and they have similar personalities to other well-established white mages, like Rosa.

[identity profile] northstarroad.livejournal.com 2011-06-22 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I am going to say White Mage for you, and even though it was a general 'feeling' throughout reading your answers, it was pretty much from your first sentence, "I am calm during stressful situations", that really made an impression. White Mages need to be unshakable, they need to have strength of character, and focus. You seem to have all of these qualities in abundance.

You do remind me of Yuna. Her resolve drove much of the plot of FFX. Not only was she willing to sacrifice herself for her friends, but she was willing to do it for an entire world of strangers that loved her simply because she was willing to die. ♥ She would have chosen to save the bus full of innocent children, too.

Seeing how this application appears to be hotly debated, I've decided to cast my vote here as well. After reading everything, I understand why people are torn, but I'll have to say you sound more like a Dragoon than White Mage. Although I can see some argument for White Mage, reading the application, I really felt you would fit Dragoon better. The introversion and reserve and the ability to hold grudges seems more Dragoon traits than White Mage. I think your determination and loyalty fits Dragoon better too.

[identity profile] magicallymmm.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm going to go with White Mage, though I was also looking at Dragoon. Your personality just seems to go more in line with the White Mages, and you even relate to a White Mage. I also agree with 404 error, nursing as your ideal profession just proves how White Magey you are.

Welcome!!

Like many who've already voted, I kept going back and forth between Black Mage, White Mage and Dragoon. In the end, I think you fit Dragoon more though. Calm under pressure, objective and loyal to a fault, are all traits that I'd associate with Dragoons. When you mentioned feeling the weight of responsibilities and expectations on your shoulders, it reminded me very much of Kain.

Calmness in stressful sitautions, your emphasis on the difficulty of forgetting a grudge and finding it hard to forgive, a willingness to sacrifice yourself that loved ones can be saved are traits that (while sometimes overlapping with the Mage classes), overall sounds like a Dragoon to me. This was hard to place, but personally this line sounded very much like what a Dragoon might say:

" When I don't meet my own expectations, I always compare myself to other people and I think, "Why can't I be like them?." I try not to think like this often but sometimes I find it hard not to."

I'm going to go with Dragoon, as your calmness in tense situations, loyalty and overall quietness seem to point in that direction! You're still reasonably cheerful, which does bring to mind a dragoon like Fang, and as Eilia mentioned above, Freya also exhibits this trait.

I think that your response to the 'Spider-Man Decision' is, actually, rather typical of dragoons like Kain, Ricard or Cid. Not so much for Fang, we know exactly how she'd answer that particular question. *laugh*

Either way, tl;dr, you're a dragoon in my eyes.

[identity profile] lady-supernova.livejournal.com 2011-06-25 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
I think you're best suited for Dragoon, though there were instances I considered White Mage instead. As said above, calmness, loyalty and general introvertness are very much dragoonish traits, and grudge-bearing too brings to mind several dragoons, like Cid or Kain. They're not all gloomy either and no one's said they can't be caring and supportive. I actually saw a lot of Kimahri in your application, which solidified my decision.

I was going to say White Mage most of your application, but this made me think Dragoon.

Yuna is probably the closest character I can relate to. We both lost our fathers at a young age, we both have too much responsibilities and expectations on our shoulders, and we also have very similar personalities.

Seen through that lens, the calmness and choice of what's right over what would make you happy (i.e. Spiderman) made more sense in a dragoon context.

Additionally, your response to your friend's issue played a role. "...I would give them my thoughts on the situation. I'm not going to lie and tell them what they want to hear...I'm going to tell them what they need to hear." Doing what is right, in terms of both an ethical value system and what is best for one's friends, rather than what is easy can be a Dragoon trait.
