Personality Questions:

1) List and expand upon your three best traits / strengths. (These should be personality-related, not physical.)

Intelligent/analytical/creative - I can be overanalytical, that or much too literal, but I really, really love mental stimulation and am thoughtful and love the arts in general.

Devoted - I have a little of a short attention span and really can't get into things that don't interest me at all, but give things all I've got when they matter to me, which also applies to people. I'm told I'm genial towards those I warm up to and a marshmallow towards those I really warm up to, and I do my best to make myself a good investment and love spending time with people I'm close to.

Proud - Combine it with the first negative trait listed below and you have what is usually called my worst specific, not-catch-all-for-the-sake-of-conciseness trait, which is perfectionism, but to be honest, a lot of the time I feel like perfectionism and obsessiveness are really potentially good things - everyone says you should try to be the best you could be, so I think part of my mind takes it as shooting for the self-disciplined best.

2) List and expand upon your three worst traits / weaknesses.

Obsessive - I tend to stall nitpicking on things I have to get done because I have to get them just right and focus on the details, sometimes excessively, that or abandon or scrap them entirely; I'm cautious/paranoid and read to much into/generally overthink things, which tends to lead to me being indecisive even over completely trivial things or finding things to worry or get into a mood over; I take being "devoted" too far on some counts, I give anything that matters to me my all and fix on things I feel strongly about, but I can't get into anything I can't get interested in and have a short attention span, and I'm stubborn and opinionated and much as I don't want to admit it I really wasn't told I use high standards everywhere for no reason; and you have the idea. The obsessiveness in some areas does develop into compulsiveness.

Reclusive - I really like privacy and time to myself on the me-side of it and on the others-side tend to feel intimidated or challenged by complete strangers and annoyed and a little smothered by large groups or crowded places, and I'm secretive, even towards people I'm close to depending on what I'm hiding - I'd really just rather not make some things their problem.

Serious - I'm curious, people have said that I actually do have a good sense of humor, and I really do like stimulation, seeing/doing interesting/exciting things, etc., but I also tend to be told that I need to "lighten up", "have fun", "stop being so proper", also etc.

3) Rate yourself on the following traits by putting an 'X' in the box you think fits best. (E.g. if you are slightly more introverted than extroverted, put an 'X' in the second box.) Explain your choice as well.

Introverted [X] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] Extroverted
Explain:
I definitely think having time to myself is relaxing and to an extent freeing, and I'm also definitely initially quiet. I can come off as either shy or aloof depending on my mood and a little hard to approach or read, and I'm too socially awkward and thanks to the perfectionism afraid of embarrassment to be particularly outgoing.

Cheerful [ ] [ ] [ ] [X] [ ] Gloomy
Explain:
I'm told I'm "up in my head", and it probably already comes across a tad by now that I have a negative bent, I can be moody/sensitive and paranoid, and I tend towards melancholy, but try to avoid getting sucked down into depressiveness. If I'm particularly upset, if I listen to an appropriately depressing song or the like, it's intended as catharsis, not stewing, and I'll probably look for things to make me happy.

Reserved [ ] [X] [ ] [ ] [ ] Impulsive
Explain:
"Reserved" is the first word I tend to use to describe my first-impression personality, but presented as an opposite of impulsiveness, I hate making mistakes and try to be cautious, but can be impulsive if I'm spurred to it or just feeling antsy.

Energetic [ ] [ ] [ ] [X] [ ] Calm
Explain:
I can be high-strung, but I try not to start bouncing off the walls however I feel.

Feminine [ ] [ ] [X] [ ] [ ] Masculine/Tomboyish
Explain:
I liked running and playing in the mud with beetles growing up, don't like clothes that don't give me a hole for each of my legs, and feel worse for not trying to be "strong" for others/when it's called for than for not letting others step up and do that for me, but I'm also a little vain or at least like to look good the best I can, happy to please, and told that even if I do come off as a little iffy I'm basically a gentle, sentimental softie. I try not to make a deal of typical gender roles, but even besides that, I can't say I really am particularly masculine or feminine.

Grudge-holding [ ] [X] [ ] [ ] [ ] Forgiving
Explain:
I'm not all that trusting but still try to have the confidence to give others a chance and accordingly try to forgive things, but I can't help but not entirely let go or fail to keep anything that needed to be forgiven in mind.

4) Describe how you typically work in teams. Is it generally a good experience, or do you prefer working by yourself? Do you like to lead and make decisions or do you prefer to let others make decisions so that you can do the legwork? You may find it helpful to give an example of a team you worked on recently and how that went.
I really prefer working alone, partly because I'm finicky and feel the need to have everything done a certain way and would rather monitor the way everything is going. I probably could work comfortably in a team of people I already trusted enough to assume we're all on the same wavelength or knew how everything would fit together with. I also used to tell myself I wasn't particularly heirarchal, but that's probably not really the case - it's more that my brain tends to place people I dislike/distrust below me, people I admire above me, people I like/trust as equals, and set authority figures as disregarded if I don't like the way they're doing things. Everything really depends on context/details - if I think I have any right to or just don't trust/lack patience for anyone else's judgement but my own in a formal group setting, I'll try to take responsibility, but I'm more inclined to follow people I really, really like and/or really, really trust.

5) Spider-Man Decision: If you had to choose between saving two dozen innocent children and saving your best friend/significant other/person closest to you, which would you pick and why? I'd probably be mad at myself the whole way no matter what I actually picked under that sort of pressure, but I can picture myself screaming that I'm sorry and sorta-reflexively rushing to save the person I'm close to and then scramble whether or not there was any time left to save the kids.

6) Your friend has had their feelings hurt and comes to you for consolation. What do you do? Let's say, two days later they come to you again still upset over the same issue. What would you do in that case? At first probably very awkwardly ask if they'd like to do anything and happily spend all day out with them if they'd like to help them get their mind off of it and let them bring the issue up to discuss it on their own terms, and with the information I get validate and reassure them the best I can. In the still-upset-two-days-later situation, ask everything that happened and exactly why they're so hurt about it and from there do my damnedest to analyze and destroy the root of the problem.

7) What interests/hobbies do you have? How do you like to spend your free time? Mixing those two questions, I like writing/reading, drawing, occasionally painting, I'm practicing keyboard and own a guitar though the last time I tried to use it snapped one of the strings and still haven't gotten replacements, music (favorite artists include Tegan and Sara, An Horse, the Smiths, the Drums, the Killers, Foster the People, K's Choice, Billy Talent, Kaki King, Depeche Mode, Garbage, and Moby), video games (favorites here would be Psychonauts, Eternal Darkness, Pokemon, Harvest Moon, Dead Rising, Silent Hill, Paper Mario, and Heavy Rain), watching good crime shows, namely CSI (only really Vegas) and Criminal Minds, cooking, and going for walks.

8) Describe one to three careers you would find ideal, with a little explanation of why it appeals to you.

Writer - Writing is definitely my favorite thing and I've been told it's my major talent ever since I was small everything getting to the point that it feels like what I'm "supposed" to do. It's difficult to make a living off of and I'd be flattering myself much too much telling myself my writing specifically is refined enough for anyone to want to sell, but a few people out there would be bound to enjoy at least some of it at least somewhat and so I suppose it's worth a try, and I'd love to become a professional writer enough to give it a shot at some point.

Cook - Cooking is just fun. I'd definitely refine my way of doing it to make any money off of it, but it's still so interesting, a sort of attempt to bring out the full potential in raw ingredients for not necessarily as psychological an effect as other kinds of art, but a much more visceral and still memorable, hopefully distinct one while nourishing others. Also, a cook controls the quality and contents of the food they make as much as they can. It'd be best for food to be both as healthy and genuinely good-tasting as possible and it would probably be useful to learn and develop how that would be done.

Profiler - Mind you not in a buying-into-TV-glamour sort of way, just for what the job entails itself, trying to analyze/interpret/understand/get inside a to-say-the-least unusual thought pattern. I think psychology is interesting, but as a job, I would feel like something along these lines would be the best way to apply it. I'm a little interested in law enforcement in general, actually, but the easiest jobs to get in it seem like they have a risk of ending up not really doing much.

FF Questions:

9) List one to three favorite Final Fantasy games and why you like them. Sequels/spin-offs/non-numbered/KH/Dissidia games are okay.

IX - It felt more in the middle of a full-fledged, living, breathing fantasy world than the others did to me. Ridiculous as this probably is as a way to put it, it had a magical sort of feel to it, like more fun was had dreaming everything up than in some of the others without destroying the tone.

Crystal Chronicles - It makes me miserable sometimes (I've forgotten how to beat the Moschets gah), but it's addicting. I also like the concepts and handling of the four races and just pain love the Yukes and Lilties.

VII - It's the one everyone remembers/singles out, but it sticks out to me, too, possibly because it's one of the first games I remember my mother playing in front of me. XD I was born into a gamin' family.

10) List one to three of your favorite Final Fantasy characters and why:

The cast is another part of why I liked IX. I liked everyone but Steiner and Amarant when I was a kid, and my stance on those two changed later on. My favorites are Vivi and Freya - it's rather difficult not to like Vivi and Freya is truly badass and truly sympathetic.

As for a third, Cid Highwind. Sometimes funny and sometimes oddly focus-stealing lovable gruff smart one.

11) One to three characters you relate to (you may reuse answers from #8 if applicable) and why:

I almost want to pull Vivi and Freya back in again in a sort of dichotomy. Natch, I don't have it nearly as hard as either of them and I'm a little embarrassed to be citing them since sometimes it's hard to tell whether you like characters so much partly because you relate to them or whether you're trying to relate to them because you like them, so I'd have to not quite sleep on it I s'pose but ponder that one and maybe edit with a better answer. Freya is easiest to elaborate on, at least so far as I want to be tough, useful, and capable of handling myself, but I'd be crushed if I didn't matter to the people I'd have been doing some of that pulling in honor of.

12) The FF game you liked playing least:

X, I think. I didn't dislike it overall, but it just feels like it takes a while to get into compared to the others I can remember.

13) One to three FF characters you dislike and why:

I can't really think of any. There are obviously characters you're supposed to dislike, but the fact that you are supposed to turns it into more of a love-to-hate. Maybe Yuna - considering she's a major character, she just never really sticks out to me.

14) Favorite weapon in a Final Fantasy game (either the name if you liked the name, or a picture if you liked the look of it, or a description if it had awesome stats/abilities): I had to go randomly wandering around on the Final Fantasy wiki to refresh my memory on weapons. Annnd the Wizard Rod stuck out to me. I love the way it looks for some reason, and powerful healing abilities are always a comfort to have on hand.

15) Your favorite Final Fantasy summon (e.g. Ifrit, Carbuncle, Bahamut, etc.): I think Leviathan is my favorite when it comes to aesthetics and Phoenix is when it comes to use ("*summons Instant Sigh o' Relief*")

16) Your favorite spell/ability/technique that can be learned in a Final Fantasy game (e.g. Esuna, Steal, special finishes/overdrives such as Tifa's Final Heaven limit break, etc.): Thundaga. I tend to inexplicably like lightning- (or water-) themed spells in games that have them. The former I s'pose tends to be oddly gratifying and they both tend to be not half bad to look at either.
I also love blue things.

17) A Final Fantasy mini-game/sidequest you invested entirely too much time into: Chocobo racing/breeding in VII. Also a fond memory of when my mom would play. She let me "have" a blue one we called Brock. /really silly reminiscence

18) Your favorite Cid: Cid Highwind without question. He always feels like more his own character to me than the other Cids.

19) Optional: Up to one class you think does not fit you, with reasoning why. Probably thief - they have a tendency to be happy-go-lucky, self-assured, flirtatious, unabashed, gleeful rule-benders, and/or smooth and so on which I can't really say is me.

[identity profile] rayiroth.livejournal.com 2011-07-03 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
The funny thing is, as I read along I wondered, "hey Vivi is that you?", then kept on seeing Freya traits until I got to the point of "which character related to you the most" and it's like the hole and the peg got altogether.

I still see lots of Vivi in you. Perhaps more comfortable and more self assured, but then again Vivi was eight years old in the games and had he made into the late teens, I think where you are is a likely place for where he would be. I know it pays to be more class orientated than character orientated, but this is what stood out to me more about you. At this stage I am going for either a Dragoon or a Black Mage.

Then I had this flash. The other character I can see in you is Lulu. Appear cold in the beginning but viciously loyal once a bond is made. Intelligent. Independent. Yes.

The Black Mage do fit, your thirst for knowledge and your joy of solitary analysis. So this is the class I'm going for.

There are obviously characters you're supposed to dislike, but the fact that you are supposed to turns it into more of a love-to-hate.
So true. This element only became a problem for me when it turned into "hey, in this game you are obligated to like so-and-so. YOU MUST. LIKE THEM. LIIIIIIIKE THEM." Not quite the right way to it.

I kept on thinking Dragoon throughout this entire application. All of your adjectives fit them perfectly-- they're proud and devoted, but sometimes take the devotion to the obsessive point and tend to be seen as serious. (Although they can have a sense of humor, a la Freya, Cid, and Fang.) They're the class that prefers working alone more than any other, and the way you responded to the comforting friend situation even had me picturing several dragoons. Even your reason for not thinking you're a thief-- they're not happy-go-lucky, unabashed, flirtatious (Fang aside), or rule-breaking at all in comparison to other groups.

At the first glance, I saw you more as a Black mage (a mixture of Vivi and Lulu like what [livejournal.com profile] rayiroth mentioned) but after re-reading your application a couple times, I definitely see you more as a Dragoon :-)

Dragoons like Freya and Fang are passionate, serious, calm and reclusive. I definitely agree with [livejournal.com profile] the_404_error that your answers to the comforting friend question and the team work question sounds like something a dragoon would answer.

I can definitely see a bit of Black Mage in your answers, especially in your positive traits about yourself but in the end I'm leaning more towards Dragoon for you. How you describe your strengths and weaknesses remind me mostly of this class, especially because you mentioned you're intelligent, analytical, proud, reclusive and serious. I normally picture Dragoon characters as introverted, gloomy, more reserved than impulsive and calm, so I think they also fits your "Rate yourself on the following traits" section nicely, you also mentioned you prefer working alone so I guess that Dragoon is really a nice fit for you.

Oh, yay! ♥ I was hoping some of the [livejournal.com profile] keybladerating members would stop by, hehe. XD *we totally need to try to get that comm active again O_O;* But, onto the stamping here! I can definitely see Soldier, Black Mage, and Dragoon as being possible fits for you...but I think I'm leaning the most towards Dragoon as well. I'd list character examples, but I think your best/worst traits really do lend themselves to pretty much *all* of the Dragoons: intelligent/analytical/creative, devoted, proud, obsessive, reclusive, and serious. Most of them come across as introverted (Freya and Kain, for example) and a few lean slightly more towards gloomy (Kain). They can be reserved, but impulsive when spurred to it or just feeling antsy (Fang). Dragoons tend to be pretty calm in comparison to their other class counterparts, and they can be pretty grudge-holding when they feel they they have been wronged...although also willing to try and forgive in some circumstances (Cid Highwind). :)

Your team work answer strikes me as very fitting for many of the Dragoon characters as many of them would *prefer* to work alone too if they had the opportunity, but they can work in teams so long as they trust everyone in it. I think your Spider-Man decision fits pretty well for the Dragoon class also, as does your consoling a friend answer. Your relation to Freya and reasons behind it (I want to be tough, useful, and capable of handling myself, but I'd be crushed if I didn't matter to the people I'd have been doing some of that pulling in honor of) make me think you'd make a good Dragoon too as it seems fitting for a lot of them as well. :)

~Yay! A fellow FFIX fan! ♥

The general vibe I'm receiving is Black Mage (or Dragoon) for the following reasons:

Your combination of positive and negative personality descriptors - intelligence, pride, reclusiveness, devotion to those with whom you are close, and overall seriousness seem to fit in best with either of the two.

The split for me was identified with your reasons for wanting to be a writer, cook, or profiler (particularly the first and last of those). They tend to be black mage oriented traits, as do your favorite weapon and ability (Wizard Rod and Thundaga respectively).

[identity profile] virago-queen.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
You seem like a pretty solid Dragoon to me, with some Black Mage traits. Devoted, proud, obsessive, reclusive, and serious are probably the five words that I would choose to best represent Kain Highwind (the Dragoon poster boy!) - Fang and Freya also share a majority of those traits in huge amounts. Grudge-holding is something I associated with both BMs and Dragoons, as well as calmness and reserve. You're intelligent, but I don't get the impression of "bookishness" that I associate with my class. Your Spiderman decision and leadership questions both scream Dragoon (with a heavy side of Black Mage). I think you hit the nail on the head when you said you related to Vivi and Freya (both EXCELLENT characters, btw - good to have some more IX-love here), but I think Freya is just a little stronger/Vivi isn't as representative of his class as a whole.

Regardless, it looks like you're going to end up in the Black Mage/Dragoon alliance, so welcome. xD

Haha yes, I agree with everyone's answers! I was just going "BLACK MAGE DRAGOON BUT VERY BLACK MAGE BUT DRAGOON TOO OMG I CAN'T DECIDE" throughout this app.

I think you're just a bit more Dragoon though. Your highly analytical nature, perfectionism/pride, and detail-oriented obsessiveness is very Black Mage-y but your other traits all seem very Dragoon-ish (devoted (Dragoons tend to be very devoted knight types), reclusiveness, seriousness, your dichotomies, preferring to work alone or with a group of people you trust and respect, and instinctively saving the person closest to you). So Dragoon it is. :)

...since sometimes it's hard to tell whether you like characters so much partly because you relate to them or whether you're trying to relate to them because you like them
This is very true! I wouldn't have been able to put it into words, but reading it here makes so much sense to me.

[identity profile] hilian.livejournal.com 2011-07-04 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to agree with the Dragoon votes, even if I can see Soldier and Black Mage as well in your application. Your positive and negative traits, reminded me of characters like Kain,Cid and Freya. I think Dragoons are intelligent, analytical, proud, like privacy and like to like to spend time on their own sometimes and they prefer working alone.

Oh...I'm torn. I can definitely see where the Black Mage vote is coming from (especially considering characters such as Vivi and Lulu in that group), but I can definitely see a lot Dragoon as well...which I think in the end, I'm leaning slightly more towards. Many of the main Dragoons in the series (Ricard, Kain, Cid Highwind, Freya, Kimahri, and Fang) are described as being intelligent/analytical/creative in their own ways, are extremely devoted, and can be proud too. There are quite a few of them who can be obsessive, reclusive, and serious as well in terms of your weaknesses too.

Several Dragoon characters (Ricard, Kain, Kimahri) tend to be much more introverted, and probably do appear to others as if they are "up in their head" a lot of the time...though they try to avoid getting into too many depressing thoughts too (at least in their later appearances in their respective games). Dragoons are often seen as being more reserved overall, but CAN be somewhat impulsive when they feel it is necessary or are feeling somewhat antsy about things. They also tend to be more calm-minded, though some might have some energetic moments from time to time still too. Depending on what has been done, they can also be pretty big grudge-holders too even if they try to let other things go (Cid is a pretty big example of this, though several Dragoon characters also show this trait depending on the scope of the transgression).

I could see several Dragoon characters relating to your thoughts on group work, on how their viewpoints on a certain team really would depend on details overall. And there are several Dragoon characters who probably would have a similar reaction to the Spider-Man scenario question too (Fang, Cid Highwind, and Kain in particular). I could also picture several Dragoon characters reacting in a similar way to your response to the friend question as well. :)

Haha, I loved your answers to the FF section questions! You picked some really awesome games and characters. I loved the fond memories you have associated with FFVII. ♥

Oh wow, I honestly see a 100% Dragoon in you. All of your traits fit extremely well, your picks in [x]'s section and explanation make me think of Dragoon class. You're a loner, a person who is hard on yourself (based on the super man question, i mean), you explain your question in quite detailed way and just... really I know this vote isn't very intelligent and is very general but I'd have to copy your application to write a proper explanation. Your personality just fits very well to how I see Dragoons. Sorry I couldn't give you a better explanation.

To be honest, I'm only seeing Dragoon as well. I'm not sure what I could say that others haven't - your sense of loyalty, your preference to work alone, intelligent yet quiet, over-all loner, your analytical thought process as well - all of this is a straight A Dragoon to me, so to speak.

I'm going to agree with all the Dragoon votes. I was leaning towards Black Mage at the beginning (as mentioned above, you have similarities to characters such as Vivi and Lulu), but in the end you seem more like Dragoon.

Dragoons tend to be more introverted, calm (Kimahri, Kain, Freya) and gloomy (Kain, Cid at first) in general. The way you describe your 'devoted' trait also reminds me of Kimahri a lot.

I don't know. A lot of people are saying Dragoon, but for some reason, I just can't agree. Throughout the entire first part of the application I was getting such a strong sense of Lightning. You seem to be very blunt, like a Monk, but you don't have that same romanticism that is prevalent in Tifa or Snow or Zell. I guess you could fit with a Dragoon because of your reserve, but you seem too blunt and headstrong. Sure you think more than Lightning normally does, but I see you as a Soldier.

[identity profile] xinnk.livejournal.com 2011-07-08 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure what more I can add that has already been said, but I have to agree that you're such a Dragoon!

The best/worst traits you described are what I classically associated with Dragoons and the almost intense seriousness most people see you with is pretty characteristic of Dragoons as well. You remind me a lot of Kain, Freya and Kimahri)

Much ♥ for Leviathan love! He seems to tend to be a bit overlooked. D:

I was torn between Dragoon and Black Mage, but I think you're just that bit more Dragoon. I don't have much to add, but your positive/negative traits - especially 'devoted' and 'proud', as well as your Spider-man decision... I think those kind of speak more of Dragoon to me.
