Personality Questions:

1) List and expand upon your three best traits / strengths. (These should be personality-related, not physical.)

Determination:
I consider this to be my defining trait. It applies to many areas: my will to succeed, my drive, my motivation to be a better person. I count most of my victories to be based on the fact that I absolutely refuse to give in until I reach my goal or to succumb to distractions.

Focused: I have my playful moments but I usually know what I want and am aware of how to get it. Like my determination, it works to my advantage.

Individualistic: I'm not someone who naturally follows the herd. I value open-mindedness, creative thinking and the courage it takes display the results of either of these. I wouldn't call myself perfect in any of these regards but I always try to inculcate an individualistic outlook towards life.

2) List and expand upon your three worst traits / weaknesses.

Aloof:
I'm very reserved, have trouble opening up and can come across as 'cold'. It stems mostly from natural shyness though I try to project a quietly confident demeanor.

Abstract: I consider myself complex, which often translates as 'being difficult to read'. Unfortunately that frees more room for being misunderstood.

Quick-tempered: I do get angry or jealous quite easily, though I keep my emotions under wraps mostly. Again, bottling up my emotions can result in coming across in a bad light.

3) Rate yourself on the following traits by putting an 'X' in the box you think fits best. (E.g. if you are slightly more introverted than extroverted, put an 'X' in the second box.) Explain your choice as well.

Introverted [ X] [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] Extroverted
Explain:Like I said earlier, I'm naturally shy and usually prefer avoiding the crowd.

Cheerful [ ] [ X] [ ] [ ] [ ] Gloomy
Explain: While I'm not a hopeless optimist, I usually look out for the positive side of things. It helps fuel my determination.

Reserved [ ] [ X] [ ] [ ] [ ] Impulsive
Explain: I do have my impulsive moments but this depends on my mood. I tend to exercise caution before jumping into things.

Energetic [ ] [ ] [ X] [ ] [ ] Calm
Explain: Very calm on the surface but tempestuous deep down.

Feminine [ ] [ ] [ ] [ X] [ ] Masculine/Tomboyish
Explain: I think I consider myself more 'feminine' than 'effeminate'. I have a lot of qualities that can seen as the former (passionate, emotional, romantic) but my interests and outlook tend towards 'tomboyish'.

Grudge-holding [ ] [X ] [ ] [ ] [ ] Forgiving
Explain: Typical-to-a-fault Scorpio speaking. I'd forgive but I won't forget.

4) Describe how you typically work in teams. Is it generally a good experience, or do you prefer working by yourself? Do you like to lead and make decisions or do you prefer to let others make decisions so that you can do the legwork? You may find it helpful to give an example of a team you worked on recently and how that went.

I usually prefer working alone whenever possible. In a group, I'm more likely to take on any role except the leader unless the situation calls for it. I don't mind legwork just as long as I'm useful.

5) Spider-Man Decision: If you had to choose between saving two dozen innocent children and saving your best friend/significant other/person closest to you, which would you pick and why?

I'd save the latter though I'd feel terrible later on.

6) Your friend has had their feelings hurt and comes to you for consolation. What do you do? Let's say, two days later they come to you again still upset over the same issue. What would you do in that case?

I'd be willing to help in whatever way I can, no matter how long the problem persists. Whether it's lending a shoulder to cry on or straight talk, I'll be there.

7) What interests/hobbies do you have? How do you like to spend your free time?

If it's writing-related, I'm over-indulging in it. This covers reading too.

8) Describe one to three careers you would find ideal, with a little explanation of why it appeals to you.

Journalism is the field I'm involved in right now for obvious reasons (see previous answer). I like the idea of informing, educating and entertaining people through my words. And though I'm a consistent introvert, I believe that story-telling is one of the best ways to get a message across, so I'd go to great lengths to ensure. Even overcoming my own tendencies.

FF Questions:

9) List one to three favorite Final Fantasy games and why you like them. Sequels/spin-offs/non-numbered/KH/Dissidia games are okay. I really enjoyed IV and VII for the storylines and characters. Kingdom Hearts II is a close runner-up in terms of the same, along with the gameplay.

10) List one to three of your favorite Final Fantasy characters and why: I'm going to go with Tifa Lockheart(FFVII) and Quistis Trepe (FFVIII) mainly because I respect a lot of aspects of their personalities and I can feel I can relate to their struggles on some level. I also enjoyed Fang (FFXIII) for pretty much the same reasons. That, and her character-design was just bad-ass.

11) One to three characters you relate to (you may reuse answers from #8 if applicable) and why: The same trio mentioned in the last answer :)

12) The FF game you liked playing least: Wasn't too fond of FFX-2. The characters were annoying and the mini-games were distracting.

13) One to three FF characters you dislike and why: FFX-2!Yuna and Rikku. I liked them in their FFX incarnations but they were just so damn flaky in that spin-off.

14) Favorite weapon in a Final Fantasy game (either the name if you liked the name, or a picture if you liked the look of it, or a description if it had awesome stats/abilities): Gun-blades are awesome. Specifically, Squall's Lion Heart.

15) Your favorite Final Fantasy summon (e.g. Ifrit, Carbuncle, Bahamut, etc.): FFX Shiva

16) Your favorite spell/ability/technique that can be learned in a Final Fantasy game (e.g. Esuna, Steal, special finishes/overdrives such as Tifa's Final Heaven limit break, etc.): Steeeaal, good times where I worked that to my advantage ;)

17) A Final Fantasy mini-game/sidequest you invested entirely too much time into: Blitzball because I downright failed at it and only continued because pride wouldn't leave in peace.

18) Your favorite Cid: FFVII's is the most entertaining.

19) Optional: Up to one class you think does not fit you, with reasoning why. I'm not seeing White Mage for me.

Hello! Wow-- I can say without a doubt that you are a Dragoon all the way, in my opinion. Determined, focused, introverted, aloof and preferring to be solitary rather than follow the crowd... I could just go on and on with the reasoning behind my decision.

"And though I'm a consistent introvert, I believe that story-telling is one of the best ways to get a message across, so I'd go to great lengths to ensure. Even overcoming my own tendencies." I found this very interesting. I'm a writer as well (though I was in the Creative Writing field as opposed to Journalism), and you very much echoed some of my own thoughts on writing. I do keep a lot of myself hidden, and the best way for me to exercise those pent-up feelings and get a point across is through writing (I'm a poet, mostly. And, you know, I also do the fanfic thing here in internet-land. Haha).

Wow. There's no debate here. I read your answers and it keeps going Dragoon, yep, Dragoon, that's Dragoon too, mmhmm, Dragoon. So in case it's hard to tell, I'm voting Dragoon. XD

Being determined, focused, aloof, somewhat quick-tempered, introverted, reserved... It's like the Dragoon bell going *ding ding ding* every time. Plus, you would save your significant other before the children, which points towards a loyalty to those you know and you are pretty willing to help your friend out in whatever is needed. Even your reticience. So definitely Dragoon.

[identity profile] the-404-error.livejournal.com 2011-08-14 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I... don't know. I really don't see Dragoon with the same certainty that others seem to. I can see you as a Soldier, Dragoon, or Black Mage.

For the Soldiers, I'm particularly reminded of Ramza. (Who can switch job classes, but is considered a soldier at the base) Willing to help your friend in any way possible, reserved, and what you said about individualism... What he does in the game requires a lot of free-thinking. However, it doesn't fit characters like Zack, who has more of a "follow the crowd" mentality.

For Dragoons, your mix of aloofness and determination does fit. I can see characters like Freya working in particular, although you seem more ainterested in others (the working alone part fits, but I try to imagine many Dragoons educating people and just... XDD) than many of in that group, a la Kain, Ricard, Ward, and Cid.

As for the Black Mages, your reason behind your profession of choice really works. Wanting to help educate the world despite more introverted tendencies... This is another class where your reasons behind the individualistic trait could also work. Black Mages aren't as likely to work alone, but otherwise... It's the class I see the least "buts" for here, so I'm ultimately going to have to go with it:

Black Mage. In addition to the above, they can also be determined and focused. (Lulu, Celes, Shantotto...) Some are naturally shy (Vivi, Terra to a degree), which can make them come off as aloof. Abstract... well, in some games (particularly VI and IX), some people don't even try to understand magic nor its users. The emotional-yet-calm-surface bit mentioned several times also brings to mind Lulu and Celes again. Introverted, cheerful (most are more moderate-to-grumpy, but there are Rydia and Shantotto...), reserved, calm on the surface... Plus, over indulging in reading? Sounds about right.

Hmm...I agree with [livejournal.com profile] the_404_error: I can definitely see reasoning as to why you would fit into the Soldier, Dragoon, or Black Mage group. I think for Soldier and Dragoon, those reasons are pretty apparent...but, if I look at your *overall* application, I actually think I'm more inclined to go with Black Mage as well (especially a Black Mage similar to Lulu from FFX!). I think your best/worst traits could fit for many of the Black Mage characters (determination, focused, individualistic, aloof, abstract, quick-tempered: makes me think a lot of Palom from FFIV/The After Years and Shantotto from FFXI and Dissidia!).

Quite a few of the Black Mage characters could lean more towards the introspective side of the introverted/extroverted spectrum (such as Vivi from FFIX)...and most Black Mages are not usually horribly optimistic, but not overly gloomy either (Rydia from FFIV/The After Years). I think most Black Mages are more reserved than they are impulsive, and they can be pretty calm on the surface while tempestuous deep down. They're also pretty willing to fall into the I'd forgive but I won't forget mentality when it comes to grudge-holding.

While Black Mages often work in teams, they're not opposed to working on their own (ones like Shantotto actually prefer it!). When they do work in teams, they often have the same mindset about it as you do (In a group, I'm more likely to take on any role except the leader unless the situation calls for it. I don't mind legwork just as long as I'm useful). I think your Spider-Man decision and how you'd console a friend would work really well for most of the Black Mages too...plus, your ideal career answer seems very fitting for many of the Black Mages in FF too! XD

Hmm...this was hard. As has been stated before, I could definitely see you in either the Black Mage, Dragoon, or Soldier job classes considering some of the characters who represent them in the FF series...though after reading the above votes and your application more closely a second time, I believe I am leaning slightly more towards a Black Mage vote overall.

Being determined, focused, individualistic, aloof, abstract, and ill-tempered are all traits that could be related to several Black Mage and Red Mage characters in the FF series at times such as Croma, Doga, Maria, Arc, Rydia, Palom, Terra, Rinoa, Vivi, Lulu, and Shantotto. Many Black Mage/Red Mage characters are rather introverted (Arc, Vivi, and Terra being prime examples of this). Several of them do tend to try to look for the positive side of things if they can as well. While they are impulsive at times depending on situations or mood, many Black Mages tend to exercise a lot of caution before doing anything (Lulu, Arc, Vivi, Doga, Croma, and Terra). Very calm on the surface but tempestuous deep down describes Black Mage characters such as Lulu and Croma perfectly to me as well. Several Black Mage characters probably would also mention being able to forgive but not necessarily forget as well...especially in certain circumstances (Lulu, Croma, and Shantotto).

How you answered the group-work question also fits with quite a few Black Mage characters to me: many of them tend to prefer being in positions outside of leadership in groups and would want to feel useful while a part of one...but several of them would probably prefer working on their own as much as possible too (Lulu, Croma, Doga, and Shantotto). Your response to the Spider-Man scenario question, and how you would console a friend also reminds me of several Black Mage characters in the FF series too. I could picture several Black Mage and Red Mage characters sharing similar viewpoints on the importance of storytelling as well! :)

I loved reading your answers to the FF-related questions! :D

I see a big Soldier/Dragoon mix. To me, your positive traits were classic Soldier. Determination and focus are the key parts of being a Soldier, and valuing courage to do your own thing makes me think of Soldier over any class too. But your negative traits make me think of a more Black Mage/Dragoon type, although they can describe certain Soldier characters as well. For your dichotomies, I think they fit Soldier pretty well, but "very calm on the surface but tempestuous deep down" makes me think of a Dragoon/Black Mage. For question 4, I usually think of Soldiers as leaders but at the same time by definition of the job, their purpose is to do legwork and be useful so it seems like something that would work for you. Your answers to 5 and 6 seem Dragoony. Finally, your favorite characters make me think of Dragoon types.

So in the end, I think I'm going to say you're Dragoon but Soldier is a really close second.

Team Thief :)

You are definitely a DRAGOON to me. (Sorry, LJ bolding isn't working for me for some reason...) A lot of people have posted quite good reasons, and I agree with all of them, but shorlixa's comment about loyalty really sealed it for me. I haven't sorted someone in a while (sorry team...:() but I remember seeing a lot of people get to that question before and pause and explain their reasoning. You just went right for the answer. You didn't even preface it with "Man... I would feel terrible about it after, but..." you just came right out with it and that to me seems to be the "fierce" level of loyalty often seen in Dragoons.

I actually see you as a Soldier/Dragoon/Black Mage hybrid (if you can imagine that, lol) but overall I'm going to go w/ Dragoon for you! The others have explained it so well already, but what made me choose Dragoon overall was your answer to the spider-man and team work question. Compared to Soldiers who would choose to take the lead, or the Black Mages who would have no problem working as a group, Dragoons prefer to work alone and get the job done themselves (i.e. their attack "Jump" is a good example of this). Also, the general tone of your application just sounds more Dragoon to me, as opposed to Black Mage or Soldier. Overall, I think that your answers applies more to Dragoon traits :-)

Gaaah. You're difficult. I'm seeing a Soldier/Dragoon/Black Mage blend for you, too. Ultimately, though, I'm going to have to go with Soldier, because I honestly think it combines your traits the best? They can teamwork, but they can also handle solo missions; they may be called upon to teach (as far as I'm concerned, Quistis, being a mercenary, is as much as Soldier as she is a blue mage). They'd also need to be focused and determined, IMO, so...

Hm I can see some Soldier traits, as well as Black Mage (in the whole literature area, though of course that's not limited to one class) but overall I think you fit Dragoon best as you're determined and prefer working solo rather than in a group. Overall I can see more Dragoon qualities but you also have a fair share of other classes.

Ah you were really tricky to sort! Like a lot of those who've voted before me, I was caught between Soldier/Dragoon/Black Mage. I think in the end, I'd have to go with Soldier.

Your preference for working alone, aloof-ness, and at the same time immense determination and focus reminds me of Soldiers such as Cloud, Ramza and Zack.

(and FFX Shiva is pretty damn awesome ♥ )

Hmm, strange. The only one I can send is the firaga_casters one, and it says it was sent on the invites page. DX In case lj is eating messages, did you check this page (http://www.livejournal.com/manage/invites.bml)? I sent it again just in case, and if only the second invite got through, I'll contact the others to resend theirs as well.
