I had a subject line in mind, but it got performance anxiety and ran away. :(
The Basics:
Name: Colleen
Age: 25
Location: Missouri, USA
Occupation: NEET (not in education, employment, or training)
How did you find out about this community? (Specify usernames if you remember them.)
Personality Questions:
1) List and expand upon your three best traits / strengths. (These should be personality-related, not physical.)
1.Stubbornness - There are plenty of great words I could have glossed this over with like conviction, but ultimately it just comes down to the fact that I’m stubborn. I won’t be forced to do things by peer pressure unless they’re actually things I want to do. Which is rather at odds with my Insecurity, but I’m just strange like that I guess.
2. Open Mindedness - I don’t like to close my mind to anything. There’s a few things that I’ll not be open about (like trying new types of fish to see if I like them or that sort of thing), but for the most part I’m willing to see alternate points of view. This has played rather heavily on my political views as even if something doesn’t affect me, I’ll try and see how people feel on the issue and why they feel the way they do before I make a decision. (This goes especially for the hot button issues.)
3. Quick Thinking - I’ve always thought fairly quickly when on my feet. I thrive when it comes to working under pressure, which is why I tend to put things off until I’m getting close to deadline. (That and I’m just lazy I guess, but hey that’s another matter.)
2) List and expand upon your three worst traits / weaknesses.
1.Stubbornness - Yes, this is on here twice. You didn’t read it wrong. Even I can acknowledge the many pitfalls to being entirely too stubborn. I tend to be a little too pig-headed and obstinate sometimes. I’m working on fixing this but it’s not exactly an easy process.
2. Pride - This ties into the stubbornness I think. It’s often my downfall as if I’m not careful I tend to develop this mindset of “If I’m not going to be the best at it, why try?”. Admittedly thinking like this rather disgusts me which is why I’m working very hard to change this as life isn’t always about being the best or anything silly like that.
3. Insecurity - This goes back to the whole pride issue. Since I’ve somehow got this notion that I have to be the best, I often can’t help but worry about if I’m doing good enough or if there was more I could have been doing to be better.
3) Rate yourself on the following traits by putting an 'X' in the box you think fits best. (E.g. if you are slightly more introverted than extroverted, put an 'X' in the second box.) Explain your choice as well.
Introverted [ ] [ ] [ ] [X] [ ] Extroverted
Explain: I've started telling people that I'm just an Introverted Extrovert actually. XD
I can be really quiet, insecure around people I don't know very well. At the same time I don't take too long to warm up to people and sometimes it happens instantaneously. It really depends on where I am, how everything has been going on in my life, the attitudes of the people around me, an that sort of thing. Give me a positive atmosphere and I'll have no problem talking the ears off everyone from the get go. Give me a place that seems hostile or unaccepting and I'll probably be closed off and just watch to see what on earth is going on. At the same time, I also tend to step in far too quickly if I think someone is doing something that shouldn't be done. Sometimes to my own detriment at that. Still, I like to stand up for what I think is right, even if it might get me in trouble.
Cheerful [ ] [X] [ ] [ ] [ ] Gloomy
Explain: I can get down if things in life are going bad sure, but on the whole I try to keep a positive out look at all times. What's the point in being depressed? Tomorrow is going to be a new day, the sun's going to shine, an there's a new chance to make everything right again. I guess you could say I'm pretty much an optimist too. [I've adopted the phrase "Zettai Daijoubu" (Everything will be all right) from CardCaptor Sakura and it's something I try to live by no matter what happens.]
Leader [ ] [X] [ ] [ ] [ ] Supportive
Explain:
My favorite position is roughly second or third in command. High up enough that I have authority and don't have to just blindly follow orders, but not high enough that everything's falling on my shoulders.
Confident [ ] [ ] [X] [ ] [ ] Modest
Explain:
It's complicated. I try to be confident in my abilities, but at the same time I'm not entirely secure in them either so it's this weird balance between "I know I can do good" and "I'm trying, it's not horrible is it? ;A;" if that makes any sense?
Reserved [ ] [ ] [X] [ ] [ ] Impulsive
Explain: In little things? I tend to be super impulsive. I'm very much a person who tens to listen to her intuition instead of thinking things through. At the same time when it comes to really important decisions I tend to be a little too reserved almost, taking forever because I don't want to make the wrong choice.
Energetic [ ] [X] [ ] [ ] [ ] Calm
Explain: When I was younger I was all energy all the time. Now I've settled into this happy medium between the two. I can be hyper and fangirling while bouncing on the bed one time an then turn around and be very calm and thoughtful as I work on an application for example.
Everything in moderation you could say.
Feminine [ ] [X] [ ] [ ] [ ] Masculine/Tomboyish
Explain: I was really tomboyish when I was younger, but the older I get the more I go for more traditionally girlie things. I mean, I'm even wearing makeup and did my hair today despite the fact that I'm not even leaving the house! I just felt like it for once. It's partially because as I get older the more I realize that being confident doesn't have anything to do with how I dress, act, or that sort of thing.
4) Describe how you typically work in teams. Is it generally a good experience, or do you prefer working by yourself? Do you like to lead and make decisions or do you prefer to let others make decisions so that you can do the legwork? You may find it helpful to give an example of a team you worked on recently and how that went.
My last work team I wasn't a lead or anything like that, but I was the go-to-girl. Anytime one of the other tech's in my team couldn't figure something out or remember something they came to me. It was my first time working in a group (that wasn't in an mmorpg) where everyone worked hard to pull their own weight and then some.
When I was a kid in school, it seemed I almost always got stuck with doing all the work in group assignments. The only exception was if it was a "fun" assignment and then I wouldn't get to do any of it.
In mmorpgs it doesn't really matter what class I am. I don't lead. I'll play second or third in command, but ultimately there's always someone else over my head an that's just the way I like it. High enough that people listen when I tell them something, but at the same time there are people I can turn to when I don't know the answer either.
I actually prefer working in teams to solo work anymore, it gets lonely when you're on your own after all.
5) What interests/hobbies do you have? How do you like to spend your free time?
Anime, manga, video games, graphics, music, foreign languages, history, and cooking are probably my main interests. My free time is typically spent trying to find enough time to watch all the anime I'm trying to follow, read the manga I want to read, play the games I want to play, roleplay the characters I applied to play, work on the icons I need for some community I joined, work on things for one of the other -land community I'm in, and things like that. Basically for someone who technically has a whole lot of "free time" I'm almost always busy. I pretty much don't have a chance to be bored!
6) Describe one to three careers you would find ideal, with a little explanation of why it appeals to you.
1. Psychologist - I like helping people and I find the human min to be fascinating so it's always a career path I've tentatively thought about studying.
2. Writer - I love to write! Creating people and worlds is fascinating and something I could spend far too much of my time doing. Sadly, I'm not very good about keeping myself motivated though so I'd have to have some sort of support system making sure that I don't get distracted more or less.
3. Voice Acting - I've face up to the fact that I just don't have what it takes to get by in the music field. At the same time, I'd love to break into being a VA. I know it's not the easiest job, but I think it'd be really fun and rewarding to try and really learn how to become the vocal embodiment of a character. A person's voice says a lot about them after all right?
FF Questions:
7) List one to three favorite Final Fantasy games and why you like them. Sequels/spin-offs/non-numbered/KH/Dissidia games are okay.
VIII - My love for 8 started when I saw the opening on tv in an advertisement for a FF concert. The graphics caught my eye and then I noticed that one of the characters had the same sort of quirk I do an I just fell for it even harder. Then I finally got to play the game and it was all I'd dreamed it could be and more. I love the characters, the story, the mechanics, everything!
XIII - Once again, my love for the game started well before I actually got to play it. I never could get into VI so Terra and I never really got to bond. Lightning really caught my eye since she was the main character and a girl too. I was determine to like it just from that alone. Then I heard lots of bad things about the game and got worried, but figured that it'd be worth trying to play it myself. The firs thing to catch my eye were the graphics naturally, but it didn't take me long to fall in love with the characters and the plot too.
XII - I like the politics, the characters, the battle system, etc! I even like Revenant Wings though it's wildly different from the original game. Now if only the eyes didn't seem so weird...
8) List one to three of your favorite Final Fantasy characters and why:
1. Rinoa Heartilly - A girl after my own heart more or less. I thought it was nice that there was someone out there who had the same necklace holding habit that I did. Then when I played the game, her determination and courage really made me admire her. Rinoa's got spunk!
2. Serah Farron - She's a minor character more or less, but someone I've really come to adore. Reading her reactions to things in the novel as well as seeing the way those closest with her react towards her I just knew she had to be someone who was really special. The fact that she's both "weak" an yet determined is really appealing to me too.
3. Snow Villiers - I didn't think I was going to like him at all. He's loud and scruffy things I don't tend to appreciate. As the game went on I was drawn to his determination and how he always seemed willing to help people. I know it's probably a cliche thing to say, but I really o believe that he's a hero, someone that people can believe in when the pressure is on.
9) One to three characters you relate to (you may reuse answers from #8 if applicable) and why:
1. Rinoa - Physical quirks aside, I understand where she's coming from. I grew up with a really strict, controlling family an I know how hard it is to live through that without letting it dampen who you are as a person. I also tend to be really stubborn and borderline overbearing sometimes just like her. So it was nice to see someone with flaws similar to mine in a video game.
2. Lightning - While I don't have the full pressures that Light had to face when she lost her parents. I do know what it's like to be an older sister and have younger siblings depending on you a lot. My family might more or less seem whole, but when it comes down to it I'm the one my siblings turn to when things start getting tough, because those are typically the times when my parents are fighting. So I'm always the one who has to be the rock for them despite how things might be affecting me personally.
10) The FF game you liked playing least:
VII? Maybe I haven't played it long enough, but the game play didn't exactly drag me in. The awkward graphics probably don't help it either, which is weird since typically I can jump from playing XIII to VIII to II like there's nothing to it. VII though just bugs me for some reason. The storyline has never interested me all that much either.
11) One to three FF characters you dislike and why:
Jihl Nabaat - She might not be a major bad guy in XIII, but she certainly deserves to be mentioned here. Typically I don't hate characters because I try to see if I can see where they are coming from, but Jihl is just irredeemable in my books. She uses people people without remorse and doesn't mind acting to get the things she wants. Her reason? To get ahead more or less an I can't accept someone who'd do those things just for their career or political aspirations.
12) Favorite weapon in a Final Fantasy game (either the name if you liked the name, or a picture if you liked the look of it, or a description if it had awesome stats/abilities):
Even more so than the Lionheart, I've always viewed Squall's Revolver as being his real weapon probably because that's what they tend to show him with. I just think it looks cool really. Sure I know it's not a very practical gunblade when compared to Lightning's Blaze Edge, but it looks neat.
13) Your favorite Final Fantasy summon (e.g. Ifrit, Carbuncle, Bahamut, etc.):
Siren - Final Fantasy VIII. Not the strongest no, but I've always really like her. The silence ability that can sometimes come with the damage is pretty nice too.
Other than that? Shiva. An awesome summon and I love most of the designs in VIII, X, and XIII especially.
14) Your favorite spell/ability/technique that can be learned in a Final Fantasy game (e.g. Esuna, Steal, special finishes/overdrives such as Tifa's Final Heaven limit break, etc.):
Despite it's limitations I've always loved Rinoa's second limit break Angel Wing.
Other than that?
The Cure family. What are potions? not to mention I hate having to use Phoenix down. I'd rather keep me party healthy.
The Blizzard family. Blizzard spells are beautiful and deadly too. My most used magic that's not healing based.
Meltdown. The Vit 0 effect has saved my skin so many times when I play VIII!
15) A Final Fantasy mini-game/sidequest you invested entirely too much time into:
Triple Triad - I've spent far too much time playing that card game! It's just so much fun!
16) Your favorite Cid: Headmaster Cid from VIII! He's just such a great guy that I can't help but like him. Nice but with an inner core that has to be super tough!
17) Optional: Up to one class you think does not fit you, with reasoning why.
Dragoon? Looking over the different dragoon type characters I remember from the games they seem too tough and ah, "hard core" for me?
