Personality Questions:

1) List and expand upon your three best traits / strengths. (These should be personality-related, not physical.)
Strategic: It's not just in video games that I'm a strategic thinker. I always find more efficient ways to do something, especially when on the job. And I often have some good ideas that can help with this. You could call me a "problem solver".

Friendly: Sometimes way too much. I am even nice to bad people. I give everybody a chance, sometimes more than one. I've always felt that people are bad because they probably didn't have any friends or someone nice to them. So I figure if I were to show them some kindness, there's always a chance they may change. Usually not, most of the time they're just never going to. But I figure I'll just try anyway.

Fast learner: I'm a quick study. I can use video games as a good example. I'm usually always ahead of my peers and figure the stuff out quickly (see strategic). This goes well with jobs, because I have to learn new things quickly and efficiently so I know what I'm doing.

2) List and expand upon your three worst traits / weaknesses.
Gullible: I basically fall for every informercial on TV EVER. It goes with me "give people a chance" thing. I know people are scam artists, and I'm not totally clueless. But I usually try to believe everyone and be good-natured. Sometimes it gets the better of me.

Stubborn: Totally stubborn. I never want to be wrong EVER. I will fight with my wife even if I know I'm wrong. Seriously. I guess it's a pride thing, but when I've made my mind up all I ever want is that. I always do what I say I'm going to do, even if people fight me about it.

Impulsive: When I have money I HAVE to spend it. When I see a game I have to have it. I eat impulsively and compulsively. And I like to just do things for fun at random. Spontaneous, maybe. This isn't for everything, but often enough.

3) Rate yourself on the following traits by putting an 'X' in the box you think fits best. (E.g. if you are slightly more introverted than extroverted, put an 'X' in the second box.) Explain your choice as well.

Introverted [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [X] Extroverted
Explain: I will tell my business to anybody, I like talking to anyone who will listen. Usually I talk so much my wife gets mad.

Cheerful [ ] [X] [ ] [ ] [ ] Gloomy
Explain: I used to be really cheerful, but living on my own and struggling got me down a little bit.

Reserved [ ] [ ] [ ] [X] [ ] Impulsive
Explain: Like I said above, I'm mostly pretty impulsive and don't think much before I do stuff. There are some things, though, that I do think about before going through with it.

Energetic [ ] [ ] [X] [ ] [ ] Calm
Explain: I'm pretty lazy, okay? But once I start stuff I get the energy to finish it. And I also am upbeat at work, which I think this falls into.

Feminine [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [X] Masculine/Tomboyish
Explain: I'm a guy plain and simple. No offense to women, but I'm all man and there just isn't too much femininity about me.

Grudge-holding [ ] [ ] [ ] [ ] [X] Forgiving
Explain: My wife sometimes gets mad because I'm always forgiving people who've done me wrong. An hour's usually the most I'll stay mad at anything.

4) Describe how you typically work in teams. Is it generally a good experience, or do you prefer working by yourself? Do you like to lead and make decisions or do you prefer to let others make decisions so that you can do the legwork? You may find it helpful to give an example of a team you worked on recently and how that went.
I love being in teams. That kind of is my dream for joining the military, to be in a team, you know? I think every part of the team should have a say in any decision, and maybe not even one leader. If there has to be, I don't mind taking the part.

5) Spider-Man Decision: If you had to choose between saving two dozen innocent children and saving your best friend/significant other/person closest to you, which would you pick and why?
I'd save the significant other purely because of love. I don't know those innocent children, and who knows, maybe the parents are pure evil. The point is I don't know them and it's my life that's being affected. If I lost my significant other and I'd be miserable and my life would just dwindle. Sorry, but I would totally not care. (I probably would care. It would probably eat me up inside. I would still make that choice, though.)

6) Your friend has had their feelings hurt and comes to you for consolation. What do you do? Let's say, two days later they come to you again still upset over the same issue. What would you do in that case?
I'd probably try to calm them and give them support and try to help them if it's something small like a job or something. And I'd tell them that like will be okay and continue, etc. After two days, I'd try harder to give them advice. I have lots of different experiences under my belt and could probably say something useful. And if I couldn't fix anything, I'd probably know someone they could go to.

7) What interests/hobbies do you have? How do you like to spend your free time?
Video games, anime, music, and eating.

That's my life.

8) Describe one to three careers you would find ideal, with a little explanation of why it appeals to you.
Astrophysicist. I love everything about space and quantum mechanics and math. Love it all. I've always loved the skies and ever since I went on my first roller coaster I've enjoyed seeing things from above.
Military. I still really want to join. I love guns and teamwork and discipline.
Masseuse. I like working with my hands and massaging has been really rewarding so far. I'd like to pursue it.

FF Questions:

9) List one to three favorite Final Fantasy games and why you like them. Sequels/spin-offs/non-numbered/KH/Dissidia games are okay.
FF7. I think it had the best story line, the best magic system, and the characters. I think they were completely well though-out. Even the side-characters had important parts to that game. It was incredible.

Dirge of Cerberus. What!? I actually like this game! I love Vincent, he's one of my favorites. The game let you know about him and his transformations and his painful past, and I loved loved loved the guns. So customizable. Great story, too.

Crisis Core. I love this game's story, and Zack is my favorite character from all the FFs. The magic system was nice and new and pretty neat. The levelling system was awesome and the characters...I just like that they finally added some first class SOLDIERs. Angeal, Genesis...awesome! As a very very close follow up, I totally loved Last Order, the OAV that goes after Crisis Core.

(Totally a 7 fanboy.)

10) List one to three of your favorite Final Fantasy characters and why:
lol wut.

Zack Fair. Love his attitude, he reminds me mostly of me. Totally. I like his fighting and how caring he is towards other people even if they were bad. I love how strong he gets in such a short period. He had a lot of potential. He's so strong that even his spirit lives on. That gets me.

Balthier. He and Fran make a good pair. The reason I like Balthier...man, his attitude and just the way he thinks proves he's so intelligent and just really well thought-out. He's like a trickster; he doesn't really let people know who he is. Who he is, being ex-judge, he's actually a nice guy. You wouldn't think it at first glance, maybe, but I like guys with good hearts. He's cocky but he knows when to back off. He's a good all-round character. And he likes bunnies. That's good in my book.

Loz. He didn't get much screentime, but I like him for his energy and that he doesn't give up..even when he's dying. He's strong and you know, I like that. Very fast for a big guy, and me being a big guy, yeah, I like that. He's not very smart, but he relates to his brothers well.

11) One to three characters you relate to (you may reuse answers from #8 if applicable) and why:
Yeah. Zack. Mostly. I think my personality matches his well.

12) The FF game you liked playing least:
FF13. Did not like linear. Can't stand it at all. Sorry. It's like they took all the creation out of it. You can't do anything yourself in that game. It's handed to you all, basically.

13) One to three FF characters you dislike and why:
Hope. I freaking hate whiny people. Shut up ya baby. If I heard anything he ever said, I'd probably tell them to get the hell away until they stop whining.

14) Favorite weapon in a Final Fantasy game (either the name if you liked the name, or a picture if you liked the look of it, or a description if it had awesome stats/abilities):
Zodiac Spear. The name was awesome and the look was awesome and also? The strength was awesome!

15) Your favorite Final Fantasy summon (e.g. Ifrit, Carbuncle, Bahamut, etc.):
Diablos. I would summon him just because that summon looked so cool.

16) Your favorite spell/ability/technique that can be learned in a Final Fantasy game (e.g. Esuna, Steal, special finishes/overdrives such as Tifa's Final Heaven limit break, etc.):
Mega flare. FF3 and FFT move! Coolest non-elemental move.

17) A Final Fantasy mini-game/sidequest you invested entirely too much time into:
Uh... FF12 hunts count, right? Because I went crazy with those hunts. I don't really do minigames or side-quests in games.

18) Your favorite Cid:
Uh. Guess I like Cidolfus. He's evil! He's like one of the only evil Cid's. He's extremely powerful and technologically advanced with everything he does and......he has a ghost on his back. >.>

19) Optional: Up to one class you think does not fit you, with reasoning why.

I'm honestly torn between Soldier and Thief for you (with some Monk in there as well!), but I think I'm leaning overall towards Thief! Many of the Thief characters in FF can be described as strategic (they have to come up with thieving plans, after all!), friendly, fast learners, gullible (well, ones like Vaan at the start of FFXII and Edge at the beginning of FFIV are gullible), stubborn, and impulsive. Your "rate the following traits" section answers reminded me a lot of Thief characters like Paul, Edge, Locke, Yuffie, Zidane, Rikku, and Vaan (and Balthier who I count as one in my head even if he doesn't technically count here, lolz): many of them are some of the more extroverted characters in their games; they can be pretty cheerful overall but have moments when they're not *always* that way (Edge, Locke, Zidane, Rikku, and Vaan to name a few!); they tend to be more on the impulsive side of things, but they can also think *some* things through as well; like you, a lot of the Thieves in FF are an interesting mix of upbeat/energetic and calm ("laid-back" being the better term, I guess?); and thieves like Vaan are also shown to be pretty forgiving as well. ...Your No offense to women, but I'm all man and there just isn't too much femininity about me comment even reminded me a lot of Edge and Zidane, lolz (it seemed like something I could picture them saying, at least)! XD

While the Thief characters in FF can function pretty well not in teams, they're one of the few job classes that seem to really enjoy/love being in them! I can also picture them agreeing that everyone in the team should have a role in decision-making, and many of them function as leaders if there has to be one (like Zidane). Your Spider-Man decision answer is actually what swayed me the most towards Thief in the end though...I think most of the FF characters in the Thief class would answer very similarly. Your answer to the consoling a friend scenario also fits with what I think most of the Thief characters would do in that situation (I have lots of different experiences under my belt and could probably say something useful. And if I couldn't fix anything, I'd probably know someone they could go to seems like something they'd be likely to say!). Your reasoning for liking and relating to Zack makes me think of the Thief class oddly enough since I think they'd admire the same qualities...and I can definitely picture them in your Balthier like! XD

~Yay for Zack, Balthier, Zodiac Spear, and Mega flare love (lolz, I am a sucker for anything involving Flare~!)! ♥ Hehe, I went crazy with the FFXII hunts too. :)

At the beginning, I was thinking total White Mage. What you said about giving everyone the benefit of the doubt and trying to change people through kindness was like super White Mage, and you also said gullible and stubborn, which White Mages can sometimes be. As I got to your dichotomies, though, those seemed very Monk-ish, so then I looked at your traits again and saw that they can be interpreted as Monk traits as well -- I always think of Monks as pure-hearted so they can be kind of gullible and they seem like the type to be friendly and forgive easily. And they can definitely be stubborn and impulsive as well.

A love of working in groups and the supportive answer you gave for #6 make me think of a White Mage/Monk combo as well. In the end, though, I'll go with Monk because I think all the traits you had that fit White Mage fit Monk equally well or even better.

Hmm...I could see quite a lot of Thief and White Mage in parts of your application (along with some Dragoon), but the more that I read through your answers--the more I kept thinking of Monk characters. Quite a few Monk characters have the contradicting traits of being both impulsive AND strategic at times depending on circumstances (Tifa, Cornelia from the Mythril Musketeers, Prishe, Snow, Zell, Yang, Ursula, Josef, Amarant, Sabin)...and many of them are quite faster learners and very friendly too. Some of them are a bit gullible at times though in certain situations, and they can be rather stubborn and determined as well.

Quite a lot of Monk characters are rather extroverted and like talking about things, can be relatively cheerful with some more serious moments at times, can have a lot of energy when they feel motivated to do so but not necessarily as much in other instances, and many Monk characters tend to be very forgiving for the most part. Monk characters actually strike me as being rather team-oriented for the most part: many of them are tied to groups in their respective worlds (Cornelia with the Mythril Musketeers, Zell with SeeD, Snow with Team NORA, Tifa with AVALANCHE, Yang with his country, etc.)...and many Monk characters seem to do pretty well in terms of their group dynamics within the games' parties too.

Your answer to the Spider-Man question also fits with how I could picture some Monk characters reasoning such a decision...especially after you mentioned how you would probably WOULD care about the decision on the inside, but that you would still make it regardless. How you responded to the friend situation reminds me quite a bit of Monk characters in the series too.

...I loved reading your answers to the FF-related questions! :D

You will divide us, and I'm not helping.

In the beginning, I see a screaming Dragoon. You are strategical, adaptive, stubborn, loyal, which all all sort of fit with a thief except for one thing - your situation with money. To me a defining element of a thief is the ability when it comes to money. It's interesting like that, how some people are completely strategiless until money is involved, while others are so tactful until it's about money!

So excuse me for potentially quoting Jessie J but it's not about the MONEY MONEY with you, so the thief is out and Dragoon is in.

The further I read though, the further I start to think maybe we have a fellow soldier here. Your choice of work certainly pointed to that direction, and you have this extroversion and team work element that is really matching with being a soldier.

In the end, I'm going for Dragoon solely based on a gut tell. When try to rationalise why you are not a soldier, I can't do it.

I probably also should put in a smiley about the jokish dividing us thing. It reads so much more severe otherwise. :D

I'm really really torn between Dragoon and Monk. The first part of your app screams Dragoon to me. Strategic, quick learner, stubborn, etc. However, your trait rating section and onwards gives me more of a Monk feel because you're more extroverted, teamwork focused, and forgiving than a Dragoon would usually be. In the end, I'm gonna go with Monk.

I kept on switching between Dragoon, Soldier, and Monk throughout this. I think you could easily be a Ward or Cid-esque Dragoon, but the extroversion and quickness to forgive gets to me.

I'm leaning the most towards Monk overall. Most of them are incredibly friendly, but also stubborn and impulsive, particularly how they become characterized later. (Sabin, Tifa, and Zell come to mind) Pretty much all of your responses in question 3 fit, and they're a lot more likely to enjoy being part of the team than most of the other groups. (They usually play support roles, and don't complain about it like some of the soldiers do. They can be leaders if it's necessary, as Yang eventually becomes)

Further, I think it's just the general vibe from your application. You selected in between calm and energetic, but you seem particularly energetic about certain things, like guns, which seems particularly monk-esque to me. (I.e. Zell and his hotdogs, Ursula and her training) I can easily see them having the "because it looks cool" reasoning you picked some of the FF-related questions as well.

I am between Monk and Thief for you. You seem to have a lot in common with both. But I think you fit Monk a bit better than Thief. You seem straightforward and blunt and many monk characters are impulsive. You're also very forgiving and friendly. Really, I can see pretty much everything you said coming from a Monk.

Woot Balthier!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who started off thinking White Mage and then later decided something else fit.

Monk for you! Monks are like a White Mages slightly more outgoing and physically capable cousins after all. They tend to be more brash and outspoken as well. I, personally, also feel like they're more likely to chose the one over the many as well.

[identity profile] xinnk.livejournal.com 2011-06-17 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I started out thinking White Mage, but through the course of your app, went through Monk, Soldier and Dragoon as well!

I think you remind me of Dragoon most of all though, in a Cid Highwind-esque way. Most are strategic, adaptive, prideful and immensely loyal. Your explanations for being forgiving are what swayed me in the end. I can imagine many Dragoons remaining loyal to others even when they've done something wrong, choosing to believe in the good of others rather than their actions.

I can definitely see where the Monk votes are coming from and I can also see some Dragoon in your application, but in the end I am leaning more towards Thief for you.
How you described your overall personality sounded a lot like thief to me, mostly because many thief characters are friendly sometimes probably too much xD , kind, fast learner but also impulsive and stubborn. Most of them can be described as extroverted, cheerful, impulsive lazy and like to work with others and be part of a team.

This took me ages to decide, because I kept wavering between Dragoon and Monk for you, but in the end I'm voting Dragoon by way of Cid Highwind. (And I'm honestly very glad to see that I'm not the only one... ^^; )

I think [livejournal.com profile] rayiroth and [livejournal.com profile] xinnk have already mentioned good reasons why, but I'll just throw additional reasoning in here: I think your spider-man decision in particular is really rather Dragoon - or at least, that's the association I make: the more personal decision which you patiently logic out and then beat yourself up over anyway.

In either case, welcome to [livejournal.com profile] ff_land and I hope you have fun!
