Personality Questions:

1) List and expand upon your three best traits / strengths. (These should be personality-related, not physical.)

+ Intelligent: I'm smart. I know a lot of things and I'm always looking to know more. I learn fast and I grasp things quickly.

+ Dependable: I'm everyone's big sister, even when they're older than me. You need a ride, some help, a shoulder to cry on, someone to walk your dog or water your plants? That would be me. If I make a promise, I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure I keep it.

+ Loyal: I'm not going to turn my back on you if you need me. I'm not going to abandon you when things get tough. Even if you hurt me, it's going to take a lot for me to give up on you.

2) List and expand upon your three worst traits / weaknesses.

- Arrogant: This is the double-edged sword of being intelligent. Sometimes I think just because I know a lot, I know everything or just because I know something, I know best. This is patently false because for everything I know, there's so much more I don't. It's something I'm always working on but sometimes the haughty little know-it-all inside of me comes out and gets all snobby until I have to smack her back down with some common sense.

- Anxious: To say that I worry about everything is not an exaggeration. I often get so overcome with anxiety that I find decision-making difficult because I can't find the option that takes care of everything in one fell swoop. This leads to a lot of second-guessing of decisions I do make, too.

- Resentful: I have a lot of resentment in me both toward people and the world at large. I've been dealt a pretty bad hand on occasion and it rankles, especially when I've made sacrifices to help others and never get any of that help back myself. I know the world's not fair and tons of people have it worse than me, but sometimes it's hard to keep that in perspective.

3) Rate yourself on the following traits by putting an 'X' in the box you think fits best. (E.g. if you are slightly more introverted than extroverted, put an 'X' in the second box.) Explain your choice as well.

Introverted [ ] [ ] [X] [ ] [ ] Extroverted
Explain: I cannot really describe myself more toward either of these extremes because I find both are important to me. My personality is naturally boisterous and sometimes I crave people, places, noise. But other times, I'm just as desperate for silence and the quiet of my own thoughts. It's one place where I really need a true balance.

Cheerful [ ] [X] [ ] [ ] [ ] Gloomy
Explain: Even when I'm miserable, I can usually find the humor in it. I come from a background where you try to stay positive in the face of hardship, so being cheerful is almost a defensive mechanism. Gloominess rarely helps the situation, I've learned.

Reserved [ ] [ ] [ ] [X] [ ] Impulsive
Explain: Reactionary is a good word to describe it. If I start thinking, I'm likely to keep thinking and never doing, so listening to my "gut" and reacting quickly is the only way to keep myself from being mired in process of thinking it out.

Energetic [ ] [ ] [ ] [X] [ ] Calm
Explain: I am definitely not someone who can be described as energetic in a physical sense. I am much more likely to be sitting or still if the opportunity is there. I am definitely unhurried; I prefer to give myself the time and be leisurely about getting from once place to the other instead of rushing.

Feminine [ ] [X] [ ] [ ] [ ] Masculine/Tomboyish
Explain: My clothing style is generally feminine in its presentation. I prefer dresses and skirts, I like jewelry even if I don't always wear it, and make-up even if I rarely wear it. I am aesthetically drawn to colors like pink and purple, earth tones; if I had to name a fashion/style icon I emulate, it would definitely be Stevie Nicks.

Grudge-holding [ ] [X] [ ] [ ] [ ] Forgiving
Explain: Even if I forgive, I don't forget. Ever. And it's being added to my mental tally book and I may bring it up the next time you do something I have to forgive you for.

4) Describe how you typically work in teams. Is it generally a good experience, or do you prefer working by yourself? Do you like to lead and make decisions or do you prefer to let others make decisions so that you can do the legwork? You may find it helpful to give an example of a team you worked on recently and how that went.

I work well with a team but I often worry about others letting me down. I am not leader material because I tend to be indecisive and too conciliatory; I am much more suited to figuring out how to get the task done once the path has been decided on. If I do take the lead, it is usually in the role of a damage-controller, especially if I see something is going off the rails and no one else is stepping up to stop it. I am very committed to accomplishing whatever task is at hand, so I'll do what I need to get that done, even if it means stepping outside of my comfort zone or doing it all myself.

5) Spider-Man Decision: If you had to choose between saving two dozen innocent children and saving your best friend/significant other/person closest to you, which would you pick and why?

There's going to be a ton of angst and regret for me no matter which choice I make, so I would make the most selfish decision and save the person closest to me. In that situation, it boils down to loyalty over heroism. If someone is close to me, there is a tacit promise in our friendship/relationship that we'll take care of each other and be there for one another, which is doubly true if our lives depend on it.

6) Your friend has had their feelings hurt and comes to you for consolation. What do you do? Let's say, two days later they come to you again still upset over the same issue. What would you do in that case?

I would try to comfort them, first of all, and try to mitigate the damage. Did someone tell them they were ugly/dumb/mean? I would come up with counter-examples. If someone was just mean or selfish toward them, I would remind them how much others love them and how that behavior toward them was wrong. If they were still upset a few days later, I would still be looking to comfort, but also to offer advice on some kind of action that might help them move on. Or I would sit down with them and go over why their feelings are still hurt to see if it is something deeper is going on.

7) What interests/hobbies do you have? How do you like to spend your free time?

I read, I write, I cook, and I generally consume as much media as possible. I love to read both fiction and non-fiction, particularly on historical or religious topics. I spend a lot of time day-dreaming which is sometimes more entertaining than what I watch and read.

8) Describe one to three careers you would find ideal, with a little explanation of why it appeals to you.

+ Writer: I currently write for a living and it suits me well. I love to write and I have the speed to get things done on deadline.

+ Teacher: I love to learn and share knowledge with others. There are so many exciting things that I'd like other people to know and by teaching them about it, I can spread that love so that they will do the same.

+ Fortune Teller: Seriously, if I could make a living at reading Tarot or Runes, I would do it. I love working with my decks and seeing what truths I can tease out from them. It's also an amazing way to connect with other people.

FF Questions:

9) List one to three favorite Final Fantasy games and why you like them. Sequels/spin-offs/non-numbered/KH/Dissidia games are okay.

+ FFVIII: This was the first game I played and I fell in love with it. I liked the characters and I found the world to be charming and lovely. I was very intrigued by its mix of technology and fantasy, especially with its emphasis on knights, which felt very medieval. It entertained me as a game for months. Oh, and the graphics blew me away. There were a lot of holes in the story, though, which was a mixed blessing because it lead me to the discovery of fanfiction!

+ FFX: I loved everything about this game from start to finish. The storyline was strong and moving, the world was fully realized as were the characters. The end was so emotionally satisfying, too, which I hadn't found with other games I've played.

10) List one to three of your favorite Final Fantasy characters and why:

+ Quistis: She was first favorite FF character and she hasn't been ousted from that pedestal yet. I liked her no-nonsense attitude, her determination, the glimmer of wicked humor in some of her lines. I liked the fact that she was smart and capable, but not flawless, and that she had a lot of self-reflection. I kept wanting to know more and more about her, even though the game didn't give me much. But I loved what it did give me, and my imagination filled in the rest.

+ Jecht: Oh, Jecht -- his entire character was such a surprise. Even more than Tidus, Jecht's story in FFX is absolutely transformative and so completely integral to everything. He was a deeply flawed man who learned and changed so much that he was willing to sacrifice himself over and over again for Spira. I was charmed by his brash attitude and I slowly fell in love with him as we watched him deal with his issues, accept what life gave him and then turn the world on its head because he was arrogant enough to think he could where so many others had failed.

11) One to three characters you relate to (you may reuse answers from #8 if applicable) and why:

I'm going to repeat and say Quistis. I know what it's like to be the smartest kid in the room for a long time and to let that feeling erode at your self-worth when you're finally out of your depth. Like Quistis, I worry about things and I've been plagued by own self-doubt. I've never been the best at interacting with my peers and find that making those connections are harder than it looks even when you want them so desperately. I know these things about myself and I saw them in Quistis when I played FFVIII.

If I had to branch out, I'd say Cid Highwind. I get his resentment about missing his chance to realize his dream and how that disappointment can turn you into a foul-mouthed jerk.

12) The FF game you liked playing least:

- FFXII: I never made it to Giruvegan. I didn't find the story or the characters very compelling and, even after tens of hours of gameplay, I was never comfortable enough with the battle system to have any confidence in my ability to not die horribly in every boss battle I had to fight. I promised my friend I would play at least that far, but as soon as I fulfilled that promise, I bailed and never looked back.

13) One to three FF characters you dislike and why:

This is a hard question because a lot of characters annoy me but I sometimes find them endearing anyway. Like Squall. He's a moody, broody teenager and I'm forced to sit through all of his angst at gun(blade)point to make it through the game and I can't even take him out of my party for a break! But he's a dork that he grows on me, and I love FFVIII so much that dislike seems a little strong for my feelings for him.

So, a character I actually dislike would be more along the times of a villain like Seymour, who just never seems to die and creeps me out to no end. Really, Seymour, just die, okay?

14) Favorite weapon in a Final Fantasy game (either the name if you liked the name, or a picture if you liked the look of it, or a description if it had awesome stats/abilities):

Yuna's celestial weapon, the Nirvana staff, on all points. The name is pretty, the artwork for the staff is gorgeous, and it kicks major ass once it's fully powered. Break Damage Limit + One Cost MP on a mage character like Yuna who I took completely around the sphere grid was the most awesome thing ever.

15) Your favorite Final Fantasy summon (e.g. Ifrit, Carbuncle, Bahamut, etc.):

Shiva! She's so gorgeous in all her designs even though she changes dramatically from incarnation to incarnation. One of my favorite things about FFX was the ability to control the Aeon as a character and to see each of them with their own set of abilities and skills. I love the way she moves in FFX, it's just perfect for the franchise's ice queen.

16) Your favorite spell/ability/technique that can be learned in a Final Fantasy game (e.g. Esuna, Steal, special finishes/overdrives such as Tifa's Final Heaven limit break, etc.):

Aerith's final limit break, Great Gospel. I love techniques that heal up your party and it does it all -- HP/MP recovery and invincibility. Plus, you've got to work hard to even have it and you only get for a very limited amount of time which makes it even more special.

17) A Final Fantasy mini-game/sidequest you invested entirely too much time into:

Chocobo breeding, bar none. It's so much hard work, definitely something I could only do back when I was in college and had a ton of time on my hands. Between catching and racing and greens and...it's just a lot of work, but I did it twice, on two different game files!

18) Your favorite Cid: Cid Highwind, of course! (Or Captain Smoky, as I liked to rename him.)

19) Optional: Up to one class you think does not fit you, with reasoning why.

Your application was really tough for me to vote on! O_O I kept going back-and-forth between *all* of the options! Black Mage, Soldier, Dragoon, Monk, Thief, and even White Mage...at different parts of your application, I could see you fitting into any one of the classes. I was actually leaning more towards Soldier, but then your teamwork and Spider-Man answers seemed contradictory to what most of the Soldier characters would say/do...and I was sort of thinking of Black Mage (especially in regards to your ideal careers!) and Thief at parts but not really "feeling" them at others. White Mage...I could see except that the Spider-Man decision answer threw me off for that class as well. So, I actually think I'm leaning the most towards either Monk or Dragoon. In the end, I'm going to go with my instinct and vote Dragoon. There are moments when I can see Dragoon characters like Kain and even Kimahri in your application, but you strike me as being *very* similar to the "Cid Highwind, Freya, and Fang" Dragoon character archetype more! XD

Like the characters I mentioned above, you are intelligent, dependable, loyal, arrogant, anxious, and resentful. I think those are all traits that those particular Dragoon characters share in one way or another. Cid, Freya, and Fang are Dragoon characters that can be either introverted or extroverted depending on their feelings or situations, so, like you, they wouldn't really be described in the sense of either extreme. They're also pretty cheerful characters on the outside and try to find humor in even miserable situations as well...and they're impulsive in the "reactionary" sense as well. Compared to other FF characters, Dragoons tend to be pretty calm and unhurried in most situations...and they definitely lean more towards the grudge-holding/"forgive-but-don't-forget" side of the spectrum as well.

Dragoons work well in a team but they are very rarely ever the leaders of it. Actually, they seem to be of the much more suited to figuring out how to get the task done once the path has been decided on mindset as well. If the Dragoon characters do take the lead, it is usually for the purposes of damage-control as well...and they're the job class I thought of the most when you mentioned that you are very committed to accomplishing whatever task is at hand, so I'll do what I need to get that done, even if it means stepping outside of my comfort zone or doing it all myself! Your answer to the Spider-Man question and reasoning behind it? It totally struck me as something a Dragoon like Fang would say! I could also see quite a few of the Dragoon characters reacting similarly to you in regards to the consoling a friend scenario. Your reasoning behind why you like and/or relate to Quistis, Jecht, and Cid Highwind? I could see that totally fitting for many of the Dragoon characters as well (I liked her no-nonsense attitude, her determination, the glimmer of wicked humor in some of her lines. I liked the fact that she was smart and capable, but not flawless, and that she had a lot of self-reflection makes me think of Dragoons like Freya and Fang...while He was a deeply flawed man who learned and changed so much that he was willing to sacrifice himself actually reminded me of Kain's story somewhat O_O; ...Plus, Cid's a Dragoon, lolz). XD

~Yay, a fellow FFX fan! ♥

unstamped but headed for Team Black Mage

[identity profile] shorlixa.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Reading through the application, I could see traits from various classes but in the end I'm going with Dragoon. Your fierce loyalty makes that an obvious choice, even if it's to the detriment of complete strangers. It actually reminds me of Fang who wouldn't mind the world ending as long as Vanille was fine. You'll prefer to play a supporting role in a team but you also want things to get done such that you may do everything yourself fits with Dragoon's somewhat independent nature. Hence my vote.

[identity profile] breyzyyin.livejournal.com 2011-06-23 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, truthfully...I kind of have to agree with Breyzy's initial assessment. You really were rather hard to place, as I could see you fitting in quite easily with ALL of the job classes for one reason or another depending on your answers (which is...kind of awesome, just so you know ♥). :D In the end though, I think I am leaning slightly more towards a Dragoon vote as well. Especially considering Dragoon characters such as Cid Highwind, Freya, and Fang (though I can see elements of Kain, Ricard, and Kimahri at times in your application too). ♥

Intelligence, dependability, and loyalty are traits all Dragoon characters tend to have in common with one another...and at times, some of them do come across as being either arrogant, anxious, or resentful on occasion as well. Your choice of a more middle ground between introverted and extroverted also struck me as being rather Dragoon-like when taking into consideration characters like Cid, Freya, and Fang: they're pretty comfortable being friendly and talking to others at times...but they also crave their own space and time to their thoughts as well (especially Freya and Fang). Your comment about trying to remain having a sense of humor even when you're feeling bad also strikes me as being rather similar to all three Dragoon characters I mentioned previously as they tend to be able to joke around and such even when they aren't perhaps feeling great. Actually, I could see most Dragoon characters in general perhaps taking a "reactionary" stance to situations. Fang and Kimahri are two Dragoon characters who do seem to enjoy going at an unhurried pace if they're allowed to do so (as does Cid Highwind from time to time too). And there are quite a few instances showcasing where Dragoons perhaps forgive a transgression, but don't necessarily put it completely out of their minds either...Cid Highwind and Fang being prime examples of instances such as this.

How you answered the teamwork question fits pretty well with Dragoon characters to me too: while several of them are leaders in their respective worlds, your mention of only wanting to do so in order to do damage control is pretty fitting for a few of those positions (Cid Highwind, Freya in regards to her people at times, and Kimahri in FFX-2 all display this). Most Dragoon characters are fine working in a team, but have no qualms separating from it when necessary...and once a goal is decided on, they'll work tirelessly to accomplish it. Your answer to the Spider-Man decision also fits rather well for many Dragoon characters to me: Fang in particular would probably make that choice, and Cid Highwind ends up abandoning his own dream (as well as the dreams of the other Rocket Town engineers) when he chooses to save Shera's life instead (which she in turn reciprocated when she shows up AGAIN to save his life later on despite how mean he'd been to her earlier)...and I could picture several of the other Dragoon characters at least understanding the reasoning behind your choice too. How you would go about consoling a friend also strikes me as being similar to how many of the Dragoon characters might handle a similar situation. Even your ideal career of being a teacher reminds me of many Dragoon characters in a way: as Kimahri becomes a teacher/mentor figure to many of the young Ronso in FFX-2 and Cid trains other engineers.

All in all, I could easily picture you fitting into the Dragoon class quite easily...though it was definitely a tough call in a lot of your responses! Reading your FF thoughts was quite awesome too. :D

haha, Seymour is such a stalker!

So, everyone else has pretty much said everything I would have to say. I'm going with Dragoon as well. Fierce loyalty!

Welcome to the community!

I see a lot of Dragoon here, with a bit of black mage as well. I think Dragoon fits your personality Questions almost perfectly, especially because I usually picture Dragoon as intelligent, loyal, but also a bit arrogant at times and resentful. Even your views on teamwork reminds me mostly of Dragoon, especially this so I'll do what I need to get that done, even if it means stepping outside of my comfort zone or doing it all myself

So, a character I actually dislike would be more along the times of a villain like Seymour, who just never seems to die and creeps me out to no end. Really, Seymour, just die, okay?
lolol! I agree completely.

I see a lot of Dragoon too! For some reason, whenever I see loyal I think either Monk or Dragoon (weird reasons? XD) but your app as whole didn't give me a Monk vibe at all.

I think the traits that fits the Dragoon class would be the intelligence, arrogance, resentfulness, and also your team leader choice. Not that I think all dragoons are arrogant and resentful xD

Also, a tiny point that may be the only thing I think of... the fact that you daydream alot xD (I equate dragoons with dreamers. lalalalaaaaaa.)

/enough about my unintelligible attempt to stamp you, HIGH FIVE FOR FF8 LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I see some Black Mage in your application, but I think I'm leaning the most towards a Dragoon vote in the end. How you described your personality (you're smart, loyal, dependable, arrogant and anxious )reminded me of many Dragoon characters like Cid, Kain and Fang.
Dragoon characters are usually calm, grudge-holding and your idea of team work (I work well with a team but I often worry about others letting me down.) reminded me of Dragoons more than Black Mages, as they tend to work alone most of the time, but can also work with others and can be the leaders of the group if necessary.
Image

[identity profile] xinnk.livejournal.com 2011-06-24 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I see a lot of Dragoon with a shade of Black Mage. I can imagine many Dragoons (like Cid, Kain and Freya) have the same descriptions of best and worst personality traits like yours. Your overwhelming loyalty is what swayed me the most, much like Freya's endless determination for the one she loved.

Hooray! for FFVIII love! ♥ Your ff comments were a lot of fun to read. (:

Black Mage

[identity profile] etsplanations.livejournal.com 2011-06-24 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
... I feel a little weird suggesting something different so close to the deadline, but frankly speaking I can't quite find the Dragoon here at all. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragoon perhaps? :c

Loyalty and intelligence are traits that are complementary with more than one class. I see a lot of Black Mage in your role in teams (figuring out how to get the task done) and in your ideal careers Writing and teaching have literary, knowledgeable fields with a touch of outreach, and your comment about fortune telling (while itself on the surface level ''magical" in that sense) stuck out to me when you wrote that you enjoyed "seeing what truths [you] could tease out from them". Again there is that element of wanting to connect with other people, and here I see Vivi -- knowledge-seeking, truth-seeking, wanting to connect with people :)

See -- I said they were compatible with more than one class :D Loyal, intelligent and dependable -and everyone's big sister, huh? From this overall picture, I can't help but see Lulu, and your explanation on 'dependability' reads somewhat like a Rick Roll to me. Still, I'm undecided as to wheter it's intentional. (Was it? XD)

I see arrogance and anxiety in BM classes as well; Palom for the former and Vivi in the latter spring to mind, offhand. Your response to friends getting hurt -- kind words, advice, talking the situation through and looking for a solution are reactions I think of as somewhat magey :)

[identity profile] the-404-error.livejournal.com 2011-06-24 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel like a broken record by this point, but Dragoon is the impression I got overall as well. I feel like your positive traits could apply to most of the classes, but I think it's your responses to the situational questions and a couple of your negative traits which remind me of the dragoons the most. Particularly, as above users have said, dragoons along the lines of Freya and Fang, who are more social and more likely to be the "crave balance" sorts. Your responses to 4 and 5 in particular seem to fit a bit more with the dragoon characters than other types... while there are other jobs with similar views, the reasons you gave for them strike me as very dragoon.

I'm voting Dragoon, your best/worst traits first pointed me in that direction intelligent, dependable, loyal, arrogant, anxious, resentful and i kept seeing it the rest of the way through, although there are underlying traits of the other classes, like Black Mages, it doesn't shine through the whole way, like dragoon does.

Monk

Your app was difficult for me! Haven't got the time to really go in-depth, but the combined traits of intelligence, loyalty, arrogance and resentfulness brings to mind a lot of dragoons from the FF series. Kain, in particular, but also evident in dragoons like Cid and Fang (arrogance, resentfulness, intelligence) and Kimahri (loyalty, intelligence).

I can see Fang and Kimahri making much the same decision in the case of the Spider-Man question. Pick the one that's important to you!

(loving the Jecht-love by the way. *bro-fist*)

So... difficult. But I think in the end I'm leaning towards Dragoon with a large streak of Black Mage. I think your worst traits lean me slightly towards Dragoon more than Black Mage... although your positive traits work for both. Your Spider-man decision and the way you work in teams also make me think a little more of Dragoon, I feel.

Echoing people's sentiments that this app is tough! I see a ton of Black Mage in you -- intelligence that can lead to being a know-it-all makes me think of Black Mages like Palom. What you said here: My personality is naturally boisterous and sometimes I crave people, places, noise. But other times, I'm just as desperate for silence and the quiet of my own thoughts. ...makes me think Black Mage a lot. Some of them I would describe as boisterous (such as Rydia) but they also need introspective time. I can definitely see Black Mages like Lulu falling into the role of damage-controller too -- stepping up only when needed to get a situation under control.

I also see a ton of Dragoon. Loyalty and dependability are traits I associate with Dragoons first and foremost. Some Dragoons can also be anxious or resentful as well. Your cheerfulness and boisterous personality isn't what I think of first when I think of Dragoon characters, but it does fit certain Dragoons like Cid and Fang. I also see some Dragoon in your leadership answer (I think they could also fill the role of emergency damage control, and I can see them worrying about people letting them down too) and in your Spider-Man answer.

I was initially going to say Dragoon, but I think the more I think about it, the more I lean toward Black Mage. But I think you're quite a bit of both!

[identity profile] lady-supernova.livejournal.com 2011-06-25 10:36 am (UTC)(link)
At first I thought I was going to have to decide between Monk and Black Mage, but then the monkiness faded away and was replaced by Dragoon. Still, I'm going to go with Black Mage here even though it won't change much. You value intelligence a lot (the first thing you mention about yourself) which I see as a very mageish trait. Black Mages can be good damage-controllers as well, and like others above I see a bit of Lulu in you.

I see you as a Dragoon, in large part because you hold yourself to high standards and expect, or at least hope, for much of the same from others.

Your loyalty, maturity, commitment, and strong sense of what's "fair" (i.e., proverbial balance sheet) are all dragoon traits.

Welcome!
